NEC CDR-74 drive

Does anyone use a NEC CDR-74 drive? If so, please let me know what you think of
it? Specifically, which SCSI controller will the NEC drive work with? I
currently use a DPT EISA SCSI controller. I wonder if I can connect the NEC
drive to it? Thanks.

I was using a CDR-74 with the Trantor T128 card that came with it with Trantor
drivers. Now I am about to use it with a Procom Xelerator with CorelSCSI!
drivers.
I like the drive but only use it for graphics and text, no multimedia circus
stuff.

Martin…I received a T128 with my CDR-36 and have been pretty much satisified
with it for CDs and hard drives. Do you have any complaints with it? I'm
looking for a new (faster) CD drive so I'd be interested. Thanks in advance.

I understand that Trantor has upgraded that card and given it a new number.
I had no problem with it. I bought Trantor's package of drivers and was running
my CDR, a disk drive and Bernoulli drive from it.
I did, however, buy a faster bus-mastering SCSI card which I have not fully
installed yet. There is nothing wrong with the Trantor.

Thanks Martin. I thought about buying a SCSI-2 controller, something with
performance and expansion capability, and be used for other things besides the
CD-ROM drive.

I just bought a Procom Xelerator SCSI-II bus-Mastering card. It was designed by
Steve Ranck who frequents CIS [75300,3426] on IBHHW and Mail. Steve will be out
of town for about two weeks, however.

The NEC CD ROM drives 74 , 74 (83,84) are standard SCSI devices
that can be used with any scsi controler, if you get the appropriate
drivers.
