I have following failures utilising DirOpus 4.11: – When I'm in a 256 WB-Color-modus and DirectoyOpus is configured to open on the workbench, everytime I try to open the configuration programm, a (empty) window opens and the computer crash. I must reboot. This doesn't happens in a p.e. 16 color workbench. – The computer freeze (crash) sometimes when I delete or move multiple files from DirOpus-window. – Using MagicMenu, the system crash always when I try to access the DirOpus menu-bar. My system-configuration: A 4000/040 16MB Fast 2MB Chip EGS 28/24 Spectrum-board 2 MB DRAM A4000 ScanDoubler Juan

I am having the same kind of trouble (though not nearly so bad) with a Picasso board. DirOpus doesn't seem to like non-standard sceens anywhere on the system. -Karl Speaking from the Rubble.

I have experienced the 'freezing' during/after move/delete actions as well, even back with the 3.41 version… Sometimes a (multiple action) operation starts, tries to open a window for progress indication or whatever and just locks up after having painted the border or so… It doesn't happen very often and most of the time only the active DOpus task freezes. The rest of the system is okay, and I can even start another DOpus task which will usually run fine. I have been using MagicMenu (v1.27) as well but had to take it off because some programs didn't seem to like it, all is well since. BTW I am using a MERLIN board with 4Megs on an A2000 with CSA-MMR 030-33/882-20/SROM/4Megs DRAM, 4Megs 16bit FastRAM and 1MB ChipMem. // Chris coming in from Germany \X/ on AutoPilot 1.06………..

Hallo Christian, nice to see you again on CIS. Thanks for the reply. So I think we are many with this kind of problem. My compi does freeze completely when this bug occur and I must reboot always. BTW I have (had) also an MERLIN 4MB. Since I got the GVP'sEGS28/24 Spectrum board I put Merlin out. Its a really big difference. Only to say: the Spectrum-board works fantastic, fast and save. Juan, hey, it's nice to be remembered! I don't know how long I've been away from CIS but it must have been MONTHS! Yeah, the MERLIN … :^)) :^(( :^| … etc. It's really not _that_ bad, isn't it? Quite good, actually, but the intuition emulation is still too slow – I'd expected it to be at least as fast as my accelerated A2000, but so far they only did betas up to v1.52, and that's dated back October/November 1993! There are many MERLIN users here in Germany feeling very bad about their purchase, and even I (of the neverending patience) am beginning to feel bad about it off and on. But they have announced _the_ _final_ _release_ version of it (v2.x) by end of February (? – might have been March.. oh, well) which they say is to finally utilize MERLINS super fast blitter and thus be _at least_ 4 times faster than, for example PICASSO II's… if only we could believe them this time… I don't think a single company has fooled their customers more than X-Pert, not necessarily the manufacturers, they deliver MERLINs, the new realtime digitizer board is out and it's _awesome_! Also, they have a new MTV (Merlin TV) out – external box, connects to digitizer, controlled from Workbench, stereo, videotext decoder, … I (and many many others) would have preferred to have a working, stable and fast intuition emulation first and then have the 'gimmicks' added, but X-Pert decided against… We'll see what comes next… Ciao, // Chris coming in from Germany \X/ on AutoPilot 1.06………..

The problem with the configuration program crashing on a 256 colour workbench screen has been fixed in version 4.12 – call for an upgrade (it should be free). Why anyone wants to run a 256 colour workbench screen is beyond me, but anyway.. 🙂 The problem with MagicMenu is with MagicMenu, not DOpus, the author of MM did release a new version that fixes it. As far as the freezing goes, without more information it is impossible to say what might be causing it. Jon

Hi Jon, >> Why anyone wants to run a 256 colour workbench screen is beyond me…<< well, put the EGS28/24 spectrum in your amiga and then you can run the 256 workbench faster than original with 2 colors. Why 256 colours? there a some programs that opens windows or screens in a workbench mode—> then you have 256 colours available (e.g. PhotoWorx). Isn't possible to put the upgrade here on CIS? it would be easier to everyone that is registered!! Juan 🙂 APflying with EGS-Spectrum-turbo (and 256 colours Workbench) <grin>
