Any 3DS owner can get Topas for about $800 new. Including Soft VTR.

You're close but not exact. 3DS owners can get the "upgrade" special locked
version of Topas 5.0 for $750. No soft VTR, that only comes with the full
version of Topas 5.0 at $2495. I should know, I've been round and round with
Crystal Graphics on this SVTR issue. Lot of bad info being propogated about
this, generally from people who haven't been through it or haven't done the
upgrade.
Well, still cheaper that $1200 for a used copy. But thanks for the info.
SoftVTR would be an enticing addition; too good to be true.

Hi Ian,
This is the second time that I have come across this offer of TOPAS PRO for
$750. The two caveats that I know of are that 3DS had to be purchased on or
before Oct '93 and that Soft VTR wasn't part of that offer. If things have
changed, drop me a note.

Correct on the softVTR but CG keeps changing the rules on the upgrade 3DS
offer. They keep extending it. If you call them they will work with you. I
think they produced a certain number of 3DS upgrade copies that use the special
dongle system and keep offering this until they run out. I guess they didn't
get the mass exodus of 3DS owners they originally expected. <G>
