BRAIN/STEM 3D Visual
11 messages in this thread
Hi All, I've got a client that is looking for a Medical Image of an
entire Brain right down to the hippocampus ("I guess that's where the
""buffalo girls"" go for graduate school") Sorry bout dat' I couldn't
resist.
Anyway its for a proof of concept thingy so it means I'm not sure
we're gonna get the job….therefore I need a very cheap..(read that
Free) image if it's available. Would anyone know where I could
obtain such a thing? Thanks in advance. Murph'
Try the local college library, especially if it's a Med School. The
anatomy books are a great source of info, if not scannable, it is
atleast good for what the medical community accepts as "real" By the
way, Karen Lukonvich says we should compare note on Matrox
experiences. Are you headed for NAB?
Jim,
Actually what I'm looking for is the Exterior Mapping of the general Brain
Structure in 3D.
Don't need all the secrets of the universe today but I do realize the Brain is
a very complex object.
What I'm looking for is a "Shell" type of 3D File.
Thanks,
Murph'
ahh – I see.
Well no solutions today.
I am about to post a similar request for lungs.
Regards,
Jim
PS. Going to NAB?
You could try Viewpoint @ 1 800 328 2738

Thanks for the reply Jacek, however you may have missed the part where
I mentioned this was a "Proof of Concept". In other words I can't
afford to spend anything on this project out-of-pocket other than my
time until it's "approved" based on a "Proof of Concept" StoryBoard
Layout with Stills and possibly a roughed out animation sequence.
If the previous message was referring to finding 3D data of a Brain
Stem for a "PROOF OF CONCEPT", this is VIEWPOINTS process:
Send a fax describing the project, time frame, data needed (should be
something we already have in our catalog usually), credits, scope of
project, etc. Viewpoint will send the data FREE. If you have our
DATASHOP CD, call 800-DATASET to get a code to download it now.
Sorry James, I forgot that you are not getting any money for this
project yet. Good luck!

I have a couple of anatomy books that may have what you want. They are mostly
pictures of autopsied cadavers, but there are some good pictures of most of the
internal organs and the brain, too. I will flip through them and see if
anything is suitable for a map.
Thanks Tim! Let me know if you come up with something
"mappable",….uh just exactly how would I create an object that I
could Map? a series of boo-lean spheres? The way this portion of 3DS
works I'm leary of doing multiple boleans and spheres. Any thoughts
on this? Murph'
you may be able to do a rough brain shape and do the rest with bump
maps. I haven't actually tried this, yet. Making a brain mesh is on
my list of things to attempt. I flipped through my books and they
have quite a lot of decent pictures of brains from all sides. Except
for the fact that they have black lines pointing to different parts
they look quite usable. I can get rid of the lines fairly easily. If
you like I could scan a couple of low-rez samples and e-mail them to
you, if you like.
