#VIBRANT AND STEATH 24
6 messages in this thread
I downloaded the new vibrant drivers and noticed that there is no new
driver for the Diamond Stealth 24 VLB card,… I just lost about half
an hours worth of tricky animation because 3DS crashed
(##$$%$%$&!!). Is ther a forthcoming driver for my video card?? I'm
using the S3 801/805 option in the VIBCFG setup. I've tried ALL the
Diamond drivers included and this still happens. It doesn't matter
which module I'm in or what I'm doing,… It just seems to happen
when I haven't saved for a while. I'm REALLY cranked for time right
now (game's due out next Friday) and I can't afford to have this
happening to me. Can SOMEONE fix me before I go postal on my
co-workers? (postal: see disgruntled post office employee).

If I'm not mistaken the Diamond Stealth (somebody stole your L) has a
Cirrus Logic 5428 chipset. Try the Cirrus 5428 setting in the menu.
John,
I think the Speedstar Pro is the one with the Cirrus part. Here is my version
of the Diamond lineage:
Speedstar Tseng ET4000 Speedstar 24 Tseng ET4000
Speedstar 24X WD90C31 Speedstar Pro Cirrus 5428
Stealth S3 911(early boards)/924(later boards) Stealth 24
S3 801(ISA)/805(VLB) Stealth Pro S3 928
Viper Weitek P9000 (P9100?)
Stealth (PCI) 32 Tseng ET4000wi
One thing that sets the Diamond boards appart from other boards that
use the same chips is that Diamond has been known to use their own
programmable dot clocks and their own RAMDACs. However, drivers for
other boards that use the same chip will usually work. Also, usually
drivers for the S3 801/805 are interchangable with drivers for the
928.
Bailey, quite a conglomeration of different chipsets. I remember this
confused me a while back about the Speedstar and the Speedstar Pro.
Hopefully the person I orginally responded to will pick this up. Your
quite up on these boards, aren't you? <g> I'll remember that. 🙂
Nik Grant is the liason with Vibrant (and they frequent this forum as
well). Have you tried JE's suggestion?
I use the Diamond Stealth Pro 24 VLB on two computers one has 2 meg
and the other has 1 meg. The computer with the 1 meg card is my net
rederer(sp). I have been using the Vibrant drivers and have not had a
single problem with them. I think you are using the wrong chip
though, the Stealth is a S3 928 chip.
Use your Vibcfg and set to a 928 S3 and mabey your problems will stop
if it does not you may have a video memory conflict. In that case
you would need to exclude the memory location from use, your Diamond
manual lists the location for this.
Hope this was of some help, as I say I don't think there is a bug
with the drivers or I would have seen it myself by now..
