I've just received Syndesis' latest mailer for their CD-ROM of public domain
models.
Can someone who's purchased it tell me how many of the more than 500 models on
this CD are specifically in 3DS and/or DXF format? I realize this disk is a
"teaser" for Syndesis' InterChange Plus, but I'm still curious.
Let's see, 500 models in five formats (DXF, 3DS, Wavefront, LightWave &
Imagine). . . Something like a hundred, maybe?

I believe each model comes in each format, so you can use any one you want in
any package. I don't have the CD-ROM, so I don't know for sure, but that's
what it sounds like on the mailer.

It is a good deal. I think 3D ROM #2 is going to be an incredible
deal!
Well, "free" is a pretty good deal! I do hope I could give away a
free copy to every expert here on the forum… all I ask is at least
one mesh of their own creation, plus a rendering on a white
background. I've uploaded the ASCII version of the submission form
to the library here, so you've got no excuses!
I think this could be a great way to get a CD copy of all the cool
stuff in the library. Of course, I'm not going to violate CIS's
collection copyright by downloading myself, but if people sent the
models directly to Syndesis, there's no problem.
Did I heat correctly? You're asking for one mesh from people and in
return you'll give them the Syndesis CD-ROM? Would it be the latest

Yes, that's right. We are asking for mesh(es) as contributions to the
next edition of the 3D-ROM. We're not picky about how many models
you send, or whether they're models of playground equipment, ants,
rocks, Spam cans, Satellites of Love, or Dali watches. We're not
concerned if you include text files or images that advertise your
services as a modeler or an animator. We want your models so we can
demonstrate the abilities of InterChange, our translation product.
And if we use your mesh on the next edition of the disc, yes, we send
you a free copy of the disc, which of course means you get copies of
everyone else's mesh, too. You get a copy of the *new* disc that
includes your model(s).
I have a few models I would be interested in contributing in exchange
for your CD-ROM. Would it be possible I could send them to you as
E-mail here on CIS?
P.S. Are the meshes on your CD-ROM royalty free or are they shareware?
I'd prefer it if I got your postal address (actually, I probably have
it) and sent you our official submission form. Or an ASCII version
is available in the 'go amigav' vendor forum. I've been meaning to
upload it here, too, but the libraries have been full recently.
Yes, the objects on our disc are royalty-free. None are "shareware".
Hi John, I'M back !!!! Make sure you point out that the VIEWPOINT
DATALAB meshes you are bundling with your CD are intended not to be
"SOLD" by you. You are selling a translator, REMEMBER ? They are
not owned by you…. All of the Viewpoint Meshes were available at
some time FREE of charge (look forward to more at SIGGRAPH 94 in
Orlando), including a FREE Viewpoint 200 page catalog, a FREE
Viewpoint Datashop CD-ROM (includes 5 FREE Downloadable Datasets),
FREE newsletter, etc.
Viewpoint is also "BROKERING" meshes. We offer 50 percent of Sales
price for any we sell. Contact Viewpoint at 1-800-DATASET.

Can someone repost the "offer" or "call for mat/obj/3ds" that this syndis
cd-rom is stemming from.. Or has this officially been called for?

Maybe someone else could jump in here with an answer for you.
If not, I'll see if I can find my old Syndiesis flyer from CAD CAMP, I'm sure
I've got it here someplace.
