Hi folks, can anybody help me with the following problem ? How is possible to convert DEM files generated by VistaPro to the 3DS ? Is there any utility which is able to convert these files ? Or the description of DEM file format ? I can write the converter, but I have no description of the DEM file format.

John Foust of Syndesis has already written the translator from Vista DEM to 3DS as an IPAS routine. He is beta testing them as we type! Contact him at [76004,1763] for more info.

Pavel, the latest release of VistPro v3.1 has a save to DXF featyre built in. It also has a utility that can take a VUE file and turn the camera path into a script from which a VistaPro animation can be generated. I highly recogmend the CD-ROM version of VistaPro which also has VistMorph and MakePath programs. The manual that comes with the CD-ROM version an eight page tutorial on VistaPro and 3DS integration. I hope this helps. Doug V.

>convert DEM files generated by VistaPro to the 3DS The newest version should have a .dxf out feature. If you don't have that release, you might want to check with John @ Syndesis to beta test his converter coming out. I'm curious on how you're using VP for landscaping. Do you mind telling me what you're trying to do?

>I'm curious on how you're using VP for landscaping. Do you mind telling me >what you're trying to do? It's simple. I have approx. 50 .DEM files, some derived from real data and some are fractal landscapes. I downloaded them from several BBSs. Problem is, that I have no VistaPro. So I would like to convert these files to meshes and use them (with some textures) as landscapes. Mainly as mountains on the horizont etc. It seems that I'll contact John Foust. Best regards PavelK

Pavel VRLI has a CD-ROM out, with HUNDREDS of .dem's, Vista Pro, and several utilities all in it, and it's not that expensive. Vista Pro will also create the texture files you need to map on the .dem's. I consider it a "must have" for landscaping. I'd get the real thing. (There's more programs coming out for it as well.) You can use the VP .dxf out feature, and buy the converter if you need something more. Just a thought. JNJ

How much is VistaPro ? No company here in Czech republic is selling this software, so I have no price info. Thx PavelK

>How much is VistaPro? I'm not sure, exactly. Ask Clint Woeltjen (75300,3706) He should know, he's a part of VRLI. You'll want to ask about the CD-ROM version, it's the best deal, I think. Good luck. JNJ

I just bought the 3.1 cd also and it's wonderfull. I called up VRLI and had them send it to me C.O.D. It only cost me 100 dollars. And that comes with the morphing program, the make path program, and a few other programs as well. It's definatly worth it if you ever have any need for mountains. Fred Nilsson VRLI has a forum on Compuserve. Just GO: VRLI
