#PAR CARD and .ifl's

Gus,
One other question for the time being. <g> When you copy a set of files
directly to the PAR for conversion, for instance:
COPY C:\IMAGES\ADLO*.TGA D:\LOGO
You get the prompt after it copies the first file over,
"Do you want to overwrite ADLO0000.tga? (YES/NO/ALL) "
Is there any way to get around having to answer "all" ?
Thanks again,
-JE
Yep, use NDOS (or 4DOS) instead of DOS 6.2. This is new stuff in DOS 6.2. I
don't know if there is some sort of switch that disables those "safety traps".
Gus,
>> use NDOS (or 4DOS) instead of DOS 6.2 This is new stuff in DOS 6.2 <<
Yeah about a decade too late. <G> Just when everyone knows that if you use
"copy" (and has learned the hard way) that it will overwrite your files, they
decide to make it safe! Unbelievable!!!
Where can I find NDOS? Does it just change the internal DOS commands or does
it change everything? There are some features of 6.2 I like. Like Defrag and
the memory check, not to mention that its smart about my Bernoullis. (Knows
what they are. <g>)
Thanks,
-JE
BMJI, 4DOS is fantastic! I won't go into one of my usual diatribes here, but
you MUST check it out. Never go back to COMMAND.COM again! That is how it
works, btw, by replacing the command line interpreter, so it is as close to
110% compatible as is possible. Do a forum search for JP Software, it should
show up in one of the shareware areas. $70 to register and you will never think
twice about it. 4OS2 and 4NT also available so you can have consistent command
prompts across OSess.
dan the 4dos man…
Dan the 4DOS man…
Being a diatribe man myself I definitely appreciate your enthusiasm. Want an
endorsement! Thanks, I will look into it ASAP.

Hey John, sorry for the delay. 4DOS is a shareware (very convincingly explained
by Dan) that replaces just COMMAND.COM (not DOS). It's got a ton of features
you won't believe how you could have lived without it for so long. Symantec
licensed and included it (as NDOS) in its Norton Utilities version 6 and 7
(version 8 is out but I haven't seen it).
Gus, so what do you think, does it make more sense to Norton Utilities version
8 and get NDOS included? Its about $70 for 4DOS. And thanks for getting back.
No big deal about the time. <g>
-JE
Get Norton Utilities 8.0. It only costs $49 to upgrade and it does include the
new NDOS.
Thanks Gus,
Norton Utilities sounds like the way to go. I'll check it out ASAP.
-JE
>> Get Norton Utilities 8.0.
I just bought ver 7. I hate when that happens! 🙁
Ralph
I am guessing that NU v8.0 will include the new v5.0 of 4DOS, so it would be a
good place to start. Especially since I also include NU on my elite list of
don't have a hard drive without it software.
dan (trying to stiffle my evangelistications)
Dan, every now and then I stumble onto something like NDOS. The last thing was
PC Tools, which seems like it should be part of DOS much as NU does.
Thanks again,
-JE
P.S. If version 8 is out, it isn't available locally.
>> P.S. If version 8 is out, it isn't available locally.
Should be "real soon." I got my invitation to upgrade in the mail just the
other day.
dan
Thanks again Dan, I'm checking on it.

You will never regret it.
dan
another quick question, since you nailed my first one.
The JOIN command on my par does not work?? could it be the version?
when I select a file to be joined, the selector it brings up is supposed to
contain other ani's to join with it….but it only shows the file i originally
selected….(which I dont want to join with itself).
I ordered my system from Pyros Partnership in CA. Does anyone know if they are
going to be sending out software updates?
Tony Boutwell
I don't know much about PAR.EXE. I know they have updates available directly
through their BBS (416) 754-8368. Don Landis and JKJ had similar problems and I
think it got solved through the upgrade. At any rate, the best person to
answers PAR.EXE questions is David White (Mr. DPS Himself) who is always around
here. His CIS ID# is 70413,1377.
Tony,
>> the selector it brings up is supposed to contain other ani's to join with
it….but it only shows the file i originally selected….
Ha! I'm glad I'm not the only one to get stuck on thet one. Just select
the first file, and after the join window comes up, select the next file from
the par drive window (right), and that file is then listed in the join window
along with the first. I made the same assumption that the selections were
supposed to be made in the join box, but Greg put me straight. Software updates
are available on the DPS bbs (say that ten times fast), and you should grab the
latest par.exe, as some people were having problems with the old one.
David
Thanks David!
you are right I never thought to try and select in the other window… geez
glad you had that happen to you so you could tell me 🙂
Tony
Tony:
DavidS answered it for you! The join does work most of the time! But you
probably want to download the new PAR.EXE from their bulletin board. That is
the official way updates are propagated, and you are always sure to get the
most recent there.
Enjoy!
Greg Pyros
Thanks Gregory, I read davids mail.
P.S. Thanks for selling me a great product, and for the great phone support
(Tony & Burt) <—they were great!
