Dear All – We are looking for a good near-letter-quality printer for use in putting out a newsletter…price should be $500 or less. I have been using a Roland PR-1011 for some time now, (Panasonic 1080 equivalent I think), and am quite pleased with the quality of output in both NLQ and graphics. The price in Canada is about $350 Cdn, or under 300 US. If you want to produce a newsletter with it, I also recommend PageSetter from Gold Disk, about $150 US (use the money you save by not buying a laser printer). Regards, Larry.

Victoria, The Epson FX-85 can be had for about $300 or so and is 180cps in normal mode and about 40cps in NLQ mode. There is also the Epson EX-800 (EH 800, darn, I forget, anyway…it E<something> 800) that is 300cps and about 60cps in NLQ mode and it goes for real near $500 and can be upgradded to color if you desire. An issue of a magazine just came out that may help you greatly. It's called PRINTERS BUYER'S GUIDE AND HANDBOOK and is put out by the people who put out by COMPUTER BUYER'S GUIDE AND HANDBOOK. It lists a ton of info on all sorts of printers including laser,dot matrix,daisy wheel, inkjet, and thermal. I'm trying to choose a printer myself and I would have been tempted to lift this mag if I hadn't been fortunate enough to have the $4.50 to buy it, though of course *I* wouldn't have ever actually done such a thing. -Mike
