#Configuring a DEC XL

I'm installing 3DS r3 in a DEC XL with the S3 928 PCI video card. Fist of all, the built-in Vibrant driver for S3928 reports there's not an S3 card installed. I suppose this is because of the PCI bus in the XL. I have a problem with fonts using the RCPADI driver supplied with the S3. I get noisy squares instead of letters in the menus. The .doc file in the s3 drivers disk says that 3Ds r2 can't use the ADI fonts supplied for ACAD, as uses the card's internal drivers. r3 is not mentioned. Now I'm using the Vibrant's vesa compatibles driver for the main display and RCPADI for rendering & display. I works fine but I'm sure the suppplied ADI driver will improve the video output. Something more: The Vibrant Vesa drivers gives only 256 color modes. Is there any other in-line driver to give me more colour?

You need to download the latest vibrant in-line driver beta update – it deals with the PCI problem. Its in the libraries somewhere.

Thanks! I've dowloaded that new release. Much better, but there's still a problem: If I choose a True Color mode, it says there's no S3 card in the system. It works all right for any resolution within 16-65,000 colors, so I've set Vibrant's drivers for Main and Materials display and RCPADI for true color rendering. I hope new releases will solve this problem soon. Thanks!

I'm glad things improved for you. You may want to post a message to Jonas Ruikis (Adesk) or Brian Massey (Vibrant) stating the make and model of you graphics card, and what exactly the problem is… a bug report. I'm sure they'll forward it to the enginieers, or tell you how to get around it yourself. John Tissavary (La Luna cie)

John, << vibrant stats forwarded to Jonas..>> Nik Grant is actually doing *all* of the work with Vibrant. He's the keeper of vibrant related data. jonas[adesk]

Hola Ignacio, que pasa? >> Fist of all, the built-in Vibrant driver for S3928 reports there's not an S3 card installed. I suppose this is because of the PCI bus in the XL.<< Have you tried the latest version of the vibrant drivers. There is an update available in the "what's new" library. I'm not sure if it supports your s3-928 but it may be worth trying.
