Spectrum Problem

Just a little problem. I purchased GigaMem over the weekend. It's install
updated my 68040.library to version 37.10. Should be no problem with that,
but when I rebooted the machine after the install I found that the
Spectrum workbench emulation would no longer work. Replacing the old
68040.library (verson 37.2) fixed the EGS problem but then GigaMem would
refuse to run because it requires version 37.10 or higher.
I really don't understand how the 68040.library would affect the Spectrum.
Is there a fix for this, I would like to use GigaMem.
The problem with the workbench emulation is something I've seen before,
when I removed the fastrom option from GVPCPUCTRL in the startup-sequence.
You get a screen full of colorful patterns that kind of looks like my
1024×768 workbench is being displayed on a low-res screen. In other words
each video line is wrapping because of the reduced line length. I know
from the pixel size that the screen is low-res.
Also why is it nessesary to copy the 2.0 roms to ram in order to run the
workbench emulation. EGS isn't patching the ROM is it??? This would be
very disturbing with 3.1 so close.
My system consists of a 3000T with a GVP G-Force 040 and 20 meg of ram
(4 meg on the 040 card).

Version 37.30 works perfectly with EGS and GigaMem and solves a lot of
other related problems…

Hmmm, I've seen this before, and most likely the above library change
will solve it.

It only patches <3.0, and then only sometimes at that. If you are
using 2.0 or 2.1 *AND* you are remapping Kickstart, EGS will patch it
to give you 256 color Workbench capabilities (i.e. pseudo-AGA
emulation). If you don't remap Kickstart, EGS will not patch it, and
you will only get 16 color Workbench screenmodes in higher
resolutions.
If you are using 3.0 or higher, EGS does nothing to the Kickstart.

The 68040.library also should be used with the latest SetPatch (40.16) to give
you the most stable system possible.

Ok, If I can find the 68040.library version 37.30! I've already looked
everywhere I could think of (including GVP's BBS) and have not found it,
or any other version of the library. Where is one supposed to get an
item like this?

Dale, 68040.library and SetPatch are parts of AmigaDOS and are not
freely distributsable. The only way to get them that I've found is
to try to get your accelerator maker (GVP) to send it to you as an
update to your original accelerator install software.
Thanks Wayne, I kinda figured that since I couldn't find the 040 library
anywhere. I hope GVP will help me out on this since the 040 and Spectrum
cards are their products. I really would like to use GigaMem!

Dale, They upgraded mine to 37.10 when I needed it for the something
or other, so I'm sure if you gove their tech support a call, they
will get one out to you.

Dale, we use version 37.10 here daily. I don't see why your system balks
unless 37.2 is installed. If you did not install the EGS software in "Expert"
mode, then please do so as soon as you get a chance.

Yes, it is patching the 2.0 Kickstart ROM. It *HAS* to. KS2.0 has
_no_ provisions for handling screens other than those that are built
into the chipset, and creating the WB screen is *not* a function
call, it's a jump to a ROM location. WB3.1 has none of those
limitations; creating WB or other screens is a simple software
function call, and there is no patching necessary.
GVP TECH
I don't know why YOUR EGS software balks with the version 37.10 040
library. (Please don't insult my system, it likes it just fine.) Maybe
the very old EGS software I have is the problem. I always buy right away
when a new product comes out and usually pay dearly for it.
Would it be possible for you guys to put the latest (what your using at
GVP) up on the BBS or better yet, in your area here?
