#4008 Controller Problem
5 messages in this thread
I have a problem with your 4008 SCSI controller. I can't swap removable media
(SyQuest) without rebooting the computer. When I swap, Workbench displays an
icon for the drive but labels it as NDOS or with random characters.
I use FaaastPrep to format the disk. After low level format, it gives me an
error when running DOS format. I quit the program and use the regular Amiga
format command for the DOS format.
I have about a dozen systems with the same configuration and I have this same
problem with all of them.
I sent a fax yesterday with more information, including my system
configuration. I need help with this – I plan to field 50 or more of these
units this year and this problem is significantly reducing our productivity.

Jon: Try the program SCSIMT.LHA in Library 9 of the AmigaUser forum. This
will allow you to mount a SyQuest cartridge at any time without a reboot.

Thanks, John.
I got some good advice from GVP, but the utility you mentioned sounds like a
good thing to have as well.
Jon,
The most important thing with disk swapping is that the RDB be written
EXACTLY the same on all cartridges. This includes the device name
and even sometimes the ICON name (depending of the programs you
use). I recommend that you use ExpertPrep instead of FastPrep, so
that you can check all the parameters before writing the RDB.
GVP TECH
Yes, that seems to have cured the problem. I got a more detailed answer from
your FAX back service. Thanks.
