Unigraphics files

Does anyone know a way to export files from unigraphics that 3dstudio
can read? Have tried dxf files and iges files thru autocad. problem with nurbs,
i think.
Are you saying that you had problems importing IGES files containing nurbs
surfaces? If so, what version of AutoCAD are you using. Also, what version of
the IGES translator are you using? To get the nurbs surfaces into AutoCAD you
need r12 and the IGES 5.1 translator. I've taken a number of nurbs surfaces
into AutoCAD and then into 3ds succesfully using IGES 5.1.
You need to tell us what version of AutoCAD and which IGES translator you are
using in order for us to be able to help you.
Yann Bertaud – VPG, Autodesk.
we are using autocad release 12 but I'm not sure if the translator is IGES 5.1.
What exactly is the translator… who makes it, and is it on the Unigraphics
system or on the Autocad system? There are three different companies
collaborating on this project, the originator of the files with Unigraphics, a
group with Autocad, and myself with 3d Studio. I don't know much about the
other 2 programs. For starters, there are an awful lot variable parameters in
how Unigraphics exports an IGES file and I'm not sure if we have these correct.
Thanks very much for your help.
The translator that I'm talking about is made by Autodesk for use
inside of AutoCAD. Most likely, they (the AutoCA guys) are using the
IGES 4.0 translator. Have them talk to their dealer about getting
the IGES 5.1 translator. You should post this message on the AutoCAD
forum (GO ACAD) to get more info about getting the file from
unigraphics. I don't know anything about Unigraphics, so I wouldn't
be able to tell you what settings to use for exporting an IGES file
from it. There might be some guys who have used it on the acad forum.
The easy part is getting the DXF file from AutoCAD to 3ds. The hard
part is getting the right info from the unigraphics IGES file. Hope
this helps
