Hello everyone, I have some questions on compression methods in 3DS: Are .TIF files stored with LZW compression? Are .TGA files stored with RLE compression? Also, can .bmp TRUE files be rendered with alpha channel info? I see no size difference between 2 files having set Use Alpha on for one of them.

<< TIFF >> From Jack Powel.. (10/93) I can understand why they might have problems _loading_ a TIFF, but I can see no reason why they can't _print_ one once it's loaded into Corel Draw — regardless of the type of printer. At any rate, 3ds 2.01 supported TIFF 5.0. Also, if compression is on while rendering, it used LZW compression. We found that PhotoStyler, for example, could not load compressed TIFFs, but had no problem with uncompressed TIFFs from 3ds.

Only tga and tif files can have an alpha channel in 3DS. Tga files are compressed with RLE. I forget which compression method Tiff files use, but it could be LZW.

TIFF files can use almost a dozen different types of compression.

I know… that's why they're so confusing. – G
