#3DS Books, Again!!
21 messages in this thread
Sorry to bring this up again, but I never seemed to look at any of the
previous messages about books. Does anyone know what 3DS book are
available, and who to contact about them? I have also heard about a
3 volume set of tip and Tricks, anyone know anything about that?
Thanks for any information.
Here in the Netherlands I found a book from a publisher called Sybex
on starting with 3ds2. It about covers all menu choices but not all
of them in depth.
I am looking for some more in depth books, if you come across a good book or
get a reply to your Tips and Tricks query, would you please let me know?
TIA
MJB
Rien, you may want to check out the following books:
Tips and Tricks series by Michele Bousquet and Glenn Melenhorst – 3 volume
tutorial guide covering morphing, glass and reflections, and shaper/lofter.
I've got these and have done some of the tutorials. They are excellent, and
although written for R2, they apply to R3 as well.
3D Studio book (can't remember the exact name) by Nancy Fulton (she's on this
forum a lot, perhaps she'll jump in), published by Advanstar. This is a
comprehensive book on 3DS, and includes a bunch of tutorials and (I think) a
CD-ROM with samples and images. I don't have this one, but it's gotten good
reviews by fellow forumites.
Soon to be released book, Inside 3D Studio published by NRP. NRP has done lots
of great guide books, including inside AutoCad, which is about the only reason
I can do anything in that software <g>.
All of these books and more are carried by Pyros Partnership, and Greg Pyros is
on this forum quite frequently (although he's been lurking lately <g>… hey
Greg, you out there?)

Sure, thanks for the hint.
Doug
Doug,
Message number 91830 from Doug Tissavary contained a brief description of
some of the books. It was however, sent to Rien Bijl rather than to you.
You should check that your CIS navagation software is downloading all
messages in any thread of interest; not just those sent directly to you. That
way you won't miss anything. If you are already doing that then we'll have to
blame it on those nasty CIS gremlins.
Here is the text of John's message:

Doug, contact Greg Pyros. Or maybe he will contact you! Greg where
the heck are you! He's gone missing for a few days, but he carries
the lot.
>>missing persons…
Greg told me he's been swamped this week and has only had time to read waiting
messages addressed directly to him.

Thanks for the list. Sorry to ask, but what did you mean by "John gave you a
pretty good rundown on some of the books." Yours was the only list received so
far. Thanks.

Any idea when I3DS will be out? I ordered it months ago, received a
card in the mail (in January, I think) saying it was a little delayed
but would be out in another month and if that was not acceptable to
return the card (I did not return the card — I want the book!). I
just hope that NRP didn't forget me!
Mike,
I've been burned in the past from trusting NRP schedules but hey,
let's go out on a limb again. I was told that Inside 3D Studio would
be in stock and shipping this week. Drop me a message at the end of
April and I'll let you know the latest estimate <g>.
Really, it should be out soon and I'm sure that they didn't forget you.
Steven
Bet you can't wait to re-edit it for r4 — or is that what you're doing?

David,

<Groan> You really know how to hurt a guy. I haven't recuperated from the
first edition yet!

How do I find out about purchasing a copy of Inside 3DS when it is released?
Thanks!

Hi my name is Gerald Richert I just called your publisher. I'm teaching in
boston. I need an evaluation copy of your book to start setting up my class.

The book is great. I have only seen it for 15 minutes, but your coverage is
great.
Gerald:
Glad you like "Inside 3D Studio"!
Greg Pyros
Gerald,
Educators can request an evaluation copy of "Inside 3D Studio" by calling the
NRP Order Line and asking to speak to an educational sales rep. The sales rep
will ask for some information about your school and the numbers of students
that pass through your program. After that a copy should be on its way to
your hands.
The number to call is 800-541-6789.
P.S. Thanks for the kind words about our book.
Steven
