Help! I can't seem to get the script/command line rendering to work in 3dstudio v.3. I tryed the straight "3ds render filename.ptj" no luck it rendered one frame at a higher resolution that I saved with the project. I tried the "/#" and it rendered several frames in the wrong viewport. I save the project in the exact viewport I wanted rendered and the resolution set but no luck. I then save a ".vue" file for the settings and it still defaulted to 640×480 targa and all I want is 320×200 resolution for tests and speed. Any help would be great… Thanks in advance, The pokeman

Command line rendering is so exacting that it's difficult to get the syntax right. That's why we made it possible in R3 to queue up a whole sequence of .prj files right inside the network rendering control dialog… even if you have only one machine. Check that technique out… it's described in the Advanced User Guide.

My one big question is can I render on a second machine that is not networked yet with this same technique while I performing other tasks (other than 3dstudio). Currently I'm running a single system but by next week I'll be running a second box for rendering and I will probably doing windows DTP in tjhe forground (one the system that my studio dongle is on). I will have file transfer capability (laplink V) but don't have the budget for a peer-to-peer… Thanks in advance The Pokeman

No problem. You can set up the queue on the second machine, shut down 3DS, take off the hardware lock, and then bring 3DS up in rendering slave mode to render the queue. – G

Steve, In addition to Gary's reply, you can also copy the .MCS file and the related project files (.PRJ, .FRM & .LOG) from the 3DS3\NETWORK directory and render them with 3DS Slave on another machine, assuming your maps and directory structure is the same on the second machine. Sometimes it's necessary to setup the queue at home and accomplish the rendering at work. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
