#Vibrant PCI no go

To anyone and everyone,
O.K. The new Gateway P66 is up and running but refuses to initialize
3dsr3. I have downloaded the new Vibrant drivers but don't understand
how to load them. I am getting the "VESA funtion 0 failed" "VDM_init
mode 63 returned error. Since I copied everything for 3dsr3 over
from the older computer, what do I need to do with these drivers to
get 3ds3 to load?
It sounds like you're using VESA drivers but the card isn't in VESA
mode. Why are you going the VESA route? If you're using the latest
Vibrant inline drivers (available in DL9) you should be able to run
your card natively. What kind of card is it?

It's an ATI PCI AX06 2 MB card that comes with the Gateway P66 system. I looked
for it in the list of cards in the Vibrant list and could not find it. On a
day when absolutely nothing worked (the Ides of March) I decided it better to
not load one more thing I was unsure of.
Today's a new day and I'm not going to pay a lot for a new…..sorry, I'm going
to get the correct drivers loaded and 3dsr3 is going to work!

I believe it is another flavor of Mach32… Try the ATI Ultra Pro XLR
settings…

I'm halfway home. It is the Ultra XLR, I ran the VIBCFG program, selected my
card and everything SEEMED to be o.k. The problem is that with a two monitor
system and a targa+ 32 card, the render display has to be changed. I set it
up exactly like the old computer and it continues to give me the RDPADI
environment varialbe…can't find….protected driver ADI…I can't figure out
which driver to change or what to change it to. Please help me. I'm more than
a little desperate.

For the TARGA card, you need the TARGA ADI driver. You'll need the RDPADI
environment vairable to point to the driver–check out the 3DS R3 manual
installation guide for details.
We are working on TARGA support, so hopefully in the near future, you can just
select TARGA from our configuration!

We are trying to get the Classic and Plus versions of TARGA going
first. After that, we'll implement the others as we can get the
boards in house.

As it turned out, selecting the Vibrant drivers was about one
thousandth of our problems. After almost 10 hours of long-distance
help from a true angel, we seem to have a functioning system. I am
glad to hear you're working on a set of drivers for Targa as many of
us lost souls have the beasts and would be very thankful for anything
that would unravel some of the mysteries of the Truevision monster.

Michael, I'm using the old Vibrant drivers with the P5-66 with no
problems. The video board is the ATI-AX0 and I selected "ATI ULTRA
XLR" when configuring the driver (3DS VIBCFG).

I think you may have saved a few precious hairs on my rapidly balding head.
Even though there is no choice for the AX0 board, I know there is one for the
Ultra XLR. Today's the day…It's going to work.

Mee too! I have two new Dell P60s with Number 9 PCI boards and the newest
Vibrant drivers with "PCI code finished" don't work at all. Please note Mr.

I ran the new Vibrant drivers this morning and attempted to boot 3dsr3. What a
surprise….nothing works. Hello? Mr. Vibrant?

What card are you running? Make sure that you don't have more than one .VLM
file in your directory and try to 'test' the video mode from the configuration.

I'm running an ATI PCI AX0 card (aka Ultra XLR) I downloaded the new Vibrant
drivers, and renamed the old .VLM to old3ds.vlm.
Am I supposed to delete the old .vlms? or what?

You can't have two .vlm files there. You should always rename the extensions
on stuff like that, just to be safe. Then just make sure your rdpadi
environment variable is set before starting 3ds, and you should be fine.

I assume that you are talking about the #9 GXE PCI card. We have had
some problems with the #9 PCIs here and have found some small BIOS
problems that we are working around now. At least some of the modes
should have worked. Please send me a list of the modes that failed
via e-mail and I'll try to make sure we have caught them.
Please note that we have experience some compatability problems with the Dell
using various PCI cards.

I can't get the 24 bit modes to work. (640×480 that is..) The VESA modes work
great!
Ok. Again, I assume that you are using a #9 GXE and you are using the 'Number
Nine GXE S3' selections on the configuration. Right? Try testing each mode
and turn and let me know which ones don't work. I'll check with our draw-code
guy and see if we can duplicate a problem with the 24-bit modes on the PCI.
