#VGA vs AMIGA MONITOR??

can anybody tell me if i can use a vga monitor to display video toaster or
what i need to enable me to do that. thanks, george
The Video Toaster's display modes REQUIRE a composite monitor (direct video
in) VGA doesn't fit the bill.

The Video Toaster operates on NTSC composite video signals and requires at
least one composite monitor. The Toaster control panel uses the Amiga's
RGB output. The control panel can be displayed on a VGA monitor by using
the MicroWay flickerFixer and Denise Extender Board (the DEB).

Talk to me, at this moment i have ntsc monitors galore, and also an ibm
computer(boy that's a nono in this forum) for word processing and file
management etc., with a vga monitor. now i'm planning to add the toaster.
that's another monitor. I'M RUNNING OUT OF ROOM IN MY SUITE!!!! so, i was
hoping to be able to utilize the vga for toaster display. it's not the
money, it's the space i'm trying to save. you are the first one that
suggests that i can do that. what is a fliker fixer and how does it work?

The Flicker Fixer (microway) adds a 31.5 deinterlaced video out to the
Amiga 2000 series computer. You can use it to show the toaster control
panel on your VGA monitor, while the Toaster NTSC output is being sent
through the original RGB port.
Thanks for the help. Is there a particular model or type of fliker fixer,
does a typical dealer carry those and what is approximate price. I'm sure

I'm sure Peter will tell you all about the Flicker Fixer – as he should.
It's his invention! I don't know how I'd live without mine. There is only
one model of it so far as I know, most dealers have it -but I believe you
need an extra board or connector to use it in conjunction with the Toaster,
since the FF usually sits in the video slot that must also be used by the
Toaster.

There are 3 deinterlacers that I know of:
1) CBM 2320 (I *think* that's the commodore #)
2) MicroWay Filcker Fixer
3) ICD Flicker Free Video (FFV)
Most dealers will have all three in stock. The CBM & Microway unit retail
for around $249, the FFV is around $300 (and doesn't take up the video
slot, so can be used on any Amiga).

thanks for the reply. i'm trying to set up a vga monitor to display both
amiga toaster page and ibm base (ops, not in this forum, but i already have
the ibm). i'm doing this to save space. i was told that with a multi sinc
monitor i will NOT need a flicker fixer and be able to switch on this
monitor between amiga and ibm. is that correct in your opinion? thanks

Yes, you can use a multi-sync monitor on both your pc & Amiga… but keep
some things in mind:
1) The monitor must sync down to 15Khz (many multisyncs only go down to
30Khz)
2) You'll need to either unplug the cp monitor cable/plug in the Amiga
cable (or use a switch box) (you can't drive the monitor with both signals
at once).
3) The Amiga output will NOT be deinterlaced… you will have a high degree
of flicker when using an interlaced screen… but it will be fine for the
Toaster.
Please check with NewTek to see what they recommend.

thanks for the info. i had a switch box in mind. probobly looking at
flicker would be annoying, how will i be able to avoid it? also i will call
newtek to question this matter. thanks again, george
