How do I get my A1200 to use a specific 16 color palette during startup?
I have created one using SCR and the workbench Palette program won't let
me save it as the default.

Give us this AGA machine thats capable of displaying all those colors and
C= only lets us save only 8 of them, it just don't seem right <G>.
There wouldn't be something I could do in the startup sequence that would
force the system to use a particuliar palette is there? I've been using
an Icon editor called IconAce 3.0, it came with a utility called
AceColors, I think I remember reading something about using it in the
startup sequence and it has something to do with the palette, but it was a
couple of months ago when I read the docs last.
BTW, thank you for suggesting QuickGrab, it did the trick very well.

The first 8 colors are reserved the workbench colors. Use the prefs/palette
tool and you'll see that is all you have direct control over. If you want to
create a custom background, create it in at least 16 colors, and don't use the
first 8 color palettes … and set your WB to 16 color or higher.
If you want to see some excellent workbench patterns, download one or more of
the WallPaper series in Lib 11 … I've got them all and change my background
every couple of days.
I think there is another way to determine all those colors.. maybe the
palette.ilbm file's palette will be used, I definitely have a 64-color WB
which remembers its palette… somehow

That might be the case if you are using 2.0x, but not 3.0. Color registers
beyond the first 8 are allowed to "float".
I have the Wallpaper series and several other series of backgrounds
as well, I don't change every couple of days though, it takes a
couple of weeks before I need a new look.
I did solve my problem last night, I was able to save the 16 color
palette I wanted with IconAce and by adding the included utility
AceColors to my WbStartup drawer I was able to get the color mapping
I wanted for some 16 color MagicWB style icons I'm using. I really
like the look of MagicWB and sent off my registration, but I wanted
to be able to add a few other colors here and there to icons and the
Dock images I'm using with ToolManager without disturbing the
original MagicWB palatte/color mapping.
I am very impressed with the configurability of Workbench, it has
come along way from my first A500 with WB 1.2, I think it would be a
fun idea if others that have monkey'd with the look of their
workbench up loaded screen shots to compare, I'm always looking for
new ideas and most of the systems I have seen, even in dealers
showrooms (around my area, the term "Dealer Showroom" is classified
as an "Oxymoron" <G> ), just use whats shipped with the original
software.
