#FloppyDrive Click
10 messages in this thread
I have NickPrefs on my A1200 and haven't noticed any problem. (Although I
can't seem to get MagicWB1.2 to install.) I have it to use NoClick. It
has a bunch of settings I don't intend to use, however.
Is there some other no-click program for WB3.0x I should be using? I
haven't seen a reference to drive clicking in the manuals (as in "read the
docs").
Thanks,
Ken
You've got 3.0, you don't need NickPrefs unless you really like wasting the
memory it requires. It is redundant, inefficient, and memory wasteful.
Offhand I don't know of any specific "no-click" programs for 3.x, but I've
never looked for one — I just keep a disk in the drive.
Kenneth,
download the KCommodity program by Kai Iske.
Its a commodity that runs in the backgroud that includes the facility to
stop drive clicking as well as a hundred and one other useful things.
Best wishes,

Thanks. It will be fun to try a couple new things out.

Trent,
It's the only thing I figured a floppy was good for — to silence the clicking
… I don't use them for anything else (well, coasters on occassion).

LOL!! You too?

OK OK, so I don't use them (floppies) for anything either. And I do have
a bunch. It's almost a relief when one is corrupted so I can throw it
away guiltlessly.
I'll put them back in the drives and delete NickPrefs. I don't use it for
anything else either.
Can the originator of a thread end it somehow? Maybe it would have been
done if I wouldn't have sent this further pleasant diversion.
Thanks,
Ken
Is there any reason that NCLIC2.LZH in lib 9 here wouldn't work?

Don't know, but I'll download it and try it. The one in NickPrefs works
fine. I just wondered if I was missing out on something I didn't set
properly somewhere, e.g. MultiView. It took an article in AW for me to
figure out anything about MultiView, referred to only once that I can find
in the A1200 manual. Now I use it all the time.
Thanks. I will check!
