#NewTek to announce..

A NewTek sales rep. met with some of our Radio/TV majors here at
Kansas State Thursday, and among the interesting tidbits was this
factoid. NewTek is going to introduce a non-linear editor at NAB.
Just thought you'd like to know.
Thanx for the info Jay.
Cool….!!!!
Jay,
Ssssshhhhhhhh………The cat out is of the bag, now 🙂
How about the rest of the story, like,… where is Kiki and Paul?
Craig
They've moved to the San Francisco area, and they'll be at NAB.
They've announced a dealer meeting and a collaboration with Alpha
Video, to take place Sunday night at Caesar's at NAB.
Thanks- I knew that part about Alpha Video, too bad I can't make it.
However, my associate from Data Graphix will be absorbing all the
NewTek/AV/Scala surprises.
Craig
Next bit of info: they sent out another fax this weekend, describing
the new product as "Private Channels." (This is the company of
ex-Newtek people, not Newtek.)
> "Private Channels" < … Sounds like a home shopping network or remote
shopping network via videophone and not Toaster related. Or is it
something else? -Craig
"Private Channels" eh? I wonder if they have Full Moon Entertainment's
Charles Band coming up with that name. After all his company did a Film
named "Bad Channels" a while back.
Anywho, did you recieve the disk I sent you with models John? I'm assuming
you did because I just recieved a new submission release form.
Yes, we received your models. If you want to send more, please do!
Ok John, when I next set to modeling If the results are useful I'll send
em along.
Actually, Private Channels is an Alpha thing.
PaulTek is called "Play"
JG
Both faxes came from Alpha; I'm sure I'm not the only person who made
that mistake. Is Private Channels Alpha's version of the dealer
network like the DTV Wizard network run on Scala?
>Is Private Channels Alpha's…running Scala< and Arexx?
PMJI,…I assume it is. I was alluding to that in a previous message
to you. But, I was hoping to find out a little more about it.
That part about remote videophone access to shopping services is all
I can guess at. An example would be: An interactive kiosk/booth in a
shopping mall to access retail services, but with the videphone twist.
However, I am just guessing. Just a couple a days to go :-).

The DTV wizard Network is Alpha as well. I think the confusion is because
Paul & Co. state that they are going to be big in Private
telecommunications (or somesuch) and they have a joint venture going with
Private Channels (Alpha)
JG
Well, I got another FAX yesterday that mentioned both in the same
breath… they may be separate companies, but I don't think there's
any doubt they're working together at least on this project. The one
FAX that mentioned only Private Channels but not Play was from Alpha,
but the others were from Alpha, too.
What are they dealing? Is it Paul and Kiki?
I really don't have any ideas about what their "product" is.
I just heard a rumor they were gonna start selling a Toaster-esque DVE
board for the PC from Pinnacle… they've been around for a while, but I
don't know how much stock to put in this rumor, it seems a bit
underwhelming… I also don't know how their legal problems with NewTek
have effected their strategy.
Aki, I think I can shed some light on the Paul/Pinnacle Systems rumor
as I was at Pinnacle's office yesterday. According to their top
management, Pinnacle has tried to contact Paul to discuss marketing
manners but had not (as of yesterday) actually spoken to him.
Personally, I don't think Paul and Pinnacle will be doing anything
together. BTW, Pinnacle has some very nice technology with their
Alladin System. Check it out at NAB. I hope things are still "on
schedule" in your neck of the woods 🙂 JP
Paul & Co. are also in bed with Reid & George johnson of Alpha Video.
They will be announcing something at NAB.
The way the sales rep explained it, "homesickness" for California
was instrumental in their departure (yeah, right!). Other than that,
they basically said OC"…no questions about departure of previous
personnel." That's all I have folks. Moderator previously squelched
all the tough questions I had.
It's called the "Video Toaster Flyer". NewTek's dealer meeting is
Sunday afternoon.
I hope that is true, and that the output is still high enough
bandwidth to be pro/broadcast useable. Gee, maybe that explains why
RGB seems to have gone incommunicado.
NewTek's gonna have some (Amiga based) competition from DMI … their
system is fun to play with.
