What is a suggested method to rasterize an AutoCad drawing. I need the pictures in a bitmap format – like GIF or PCX. They exist as AutoCad drawings, but my contact who does AutoCad is having a lot of trouble finding a conversion route. He also is having trouble hitting the image size I want (in pixels). (His paper copies look great.) (We have about 50 to do – we'd like it to be a "turn the crank" operation.) I'm planning to do some size reductions, adding gray scale elements, but if there is a better way to get the anti-aliasing done, I'd love to hear about that. Chuck Jameson Silver Tongue Software

/* What is a suggested method to rasterize an AutoCad drawing. */ Howdy Charles. Depending on which release of AutoCAD you're using, there may be some built-in methods of doing this. In release 12, you can use the PLOT command after you have configured ACAD for the raster file format you need. Use Raster Output Filer formats in the CONFIG command, at which point you will be presented with numerous common raster formats including BMP, PCX, TGA, etc. Whatever's in the display screen will raster out according to your configured resolution (set in the PLOT configuration). Simply PLOT the drawing, once your plotter is set to the raster file output format and viola! There is also a SAVEIMG command you can use internal to the ACAD session which will allow you to save the entire screen , graphics area only, etc. in TGA, RND, or GIF format. In ACAD R12 Windows, a simple press of PRINT SCREEN sends the current screen into the clipboard buffer, which can then be pasted (using Paintbrush or other paint tools) into a raster program and saved as BMP, PCX, etc. For Release 11 and earlier, you need to find a screen capture utility (many available in GO GRAPHSUPP forum, most require your screen to be in standard IBM VGA mode to capture properly. Hope this helps for starters. -dave

YOu might also try Hijaak Pro, it can convert anything to anything, almost.

/* YOu might also try Hijaak Pro, it can convert anything to anything, almost. */ Yeah, that's a good one too. I was trying to suggest some internals to ACAD though… see if that's what he needed before spending more. 🙂 -dave

Charles, in addition to Dave's comments: I found it most useful to plot from AutoCAD to TGA files for later use in 3DS. Both the PCX and the TIFF output of AutoCAD's raster file 'plotter' driver are … let's say 'strange' <g>. Dietmar

Deitmar et al… Wow dudes, thanks a lot, so prompt and an assortment of ideas about Autocad rasterization to chew on. Chuck Jameson Silver Tongue Software

ANOTHER APPROACH TO MOVING FILES FROM AUTO CAD TO ANIMATOR PRO IS TO SAVE THE FILE IN THE AUTOCAD SLIDE FORMAT (SLD EXTENTION). THEN USE THE CONVERSION PROGRAM WHICH COMES WITH ANIMATOR PRO (ANICONV) OPEN THE FILE BY SELECTING THE FLIC / LOAD / OTHER / R SLD OPTION, THEN CONVERT IN THE USUAL WAY. YOU MUST GO THROUGH THE FLIC LOAD MENU IT CAN'T BE DONE FROM THE PIC LOAD MENU.
