I have bought the new Cyrix Upgrade Microprocessor Cx486SRx2 for the Vortex GoldenGate 25Mhz 80386Sx AT-Emulator. It fits well, but doesnt work! 🙂 When starting up, I receive the message: " Loader reports error 98: can't find GoldenGate-486 ". My question is : Is it not possible upgrading the 80386Sx on the Emulator?

Claude, if it really said "Can't find GoldenGate-486" rather than Golden-Gate 386, I would suspect GoldGate put in a microprocessor detection routine in their software/firmware and that is what is screwing it up. It's detecting the 486 and therefore gets confused. Can you call the company for a fix if that message is as I typed it back?

Claude, Unfortunately, that's the way it is. Vortex put in hardware copy protection to prevent the board being ripped off in Europe. To get the board upgraded, get in touch with Rich Mataka, Vortex's tech support in the US, at (718) 967-1509. They'll take your board and replace it with an upgraded board, so it has to be a "stock" board in good working order. Marion CROSSINGS Newsletter for Amiga/PC/Mac compatibility

I thank you very much for your answer to my question ( it was the first that I put in Compuserve).I ' ve asked the firm where I have bought the processor, if they will take it back. Up to now , I haven't got a reply; but I still have hope. If yes I will change my 386Sx to 486SLC2.
