NOTEBOOK SETTINGS REQUESTED
I HAD LIMITED SUCCESS IN GETTING ANI TO WORK UNDER OS2. THE BEST
METHOD SEEMS TO BE TO BOOT A DOS IMAGE THOUGH THAT CAUSES
COMPLICATIONS IN ITSELF. I USED A VIRTUAL DOS MACHINE AND BOOTED FROM
A DISK IMAGE FILE OF (DOS 6.0). ANI CAME UP FINE THOUGH SLOWLY & I
WAS ABLE TO ACCESS MY .PCX FILES. THE PROBLEM CAME IN WHEN I TRIED TO
SWITCH BACK TO THE OS2 DESKTOP. THE PALLETE BECAME CORRUPTED AND I
HAD TWO LOVELY BARS OF GARBAGE ON THE SCREEN. ALT<ESC> AND CTRL<ESC>
MET WITH NO SUCCESS AND I WAS FORCED TO REBOOT USING THE RESET BUTTON
AS THE KEYPAD/MOUSE WERE NOT RESPONDING TO CTRL-ALT-DEL.
IF I SHELL TO DOS THROUGH ANI'S "SHELL TO DOS" OPTION I CAN THEN
RETURN TO THE DESKTOP BY HITTING CTRL<ESC>. ONCE I RETURN TO THE DOS
SESSION I CAN RE-ENTER ANI BY TYPING EXIT. ONCE BACK IN ANI I CAN NO
LONGER ACCESS ANY OF THE SUB-MENUS AND ALL THE DIALOG BOXES HAVE THE
FOLLOWING TEXT IN THEM.
EXAMPLE – CLICK ON THE "ABOUT ANI" MENU OPTION
FOLLOWING TEXT APPEARS INSTEAD OF THE DIALOG BOXES
—————————————–
??AMESTRING ERRLINES CANT_LOAD2 ??

ERROR CODE 614
—————————————–
________________
CONTINUE
______________
THEN I GET A ERROR CODE 608 AND THE SCREEN RETURNS TO NORMAL.
THE ONLY WAY I CAN EXIT THE PROGRAM AT THIS POINT (THE EXIT ANI
OPTION GETS THE ABOVE ERROR AS WELL) SO I HIT ITEMS TILL I EXITED
THE CONFIGURE SCREEN SIZE – DUMPS ME BACK TO A DOS PROMPT…
AFTER REBOOTING I TRIED TO RUN ANI WITH THE SETTINGS MENTIONED
IN MESSAGE NUMBER 74606 DATE 6 JAN 94 0930. I RECEIVED A COPY OF THE
MESSAGE FROM ARTISOFT TECH SUPPORT (NIK GRANT). WHO FAXED IT TO MY
WORK CENTER. UNFORTUNATLY THESE SETTINGS STILL DID NOT CURE THE PROBLEM
IN FACT ANI WOULDNT EVEN LOAD. I DOUBLE CLICK ON THE ANI PROGRAM
FOLDER AND THE SYSTEM HANGS – NO SHIFT TO A DOS FULL SCREEN WINDOW OR
ANYTTHING JUST A NICE TIGHT LOCK UP – NO MOUSE OR KEYBOARD COMMANDS
ARE ACCEPTED. THIS HAPPENED THREE TIMES BEFORE I GAVE UP…
ANYTIME SOMEONE WANTS TO JUMP IN AND EXPLAIN WHAT IS GOING ON
– LET ME KNOW! 🙂
DPMI – ENABLED
DPMI LIMIT – 64 (I ONLY HAVE 8MEGS SO I SET IT TO 6)
INT DURING IO – ON
DO I HAVE TO CHANGE THE DEFALUT EMS/XMS SETTINGS? I HAVE SPECIFIED IN MY
OS2 CONFIG.SYS TO HIGHLOAD DOS AND USE UMB'S SO I DONT HAVE TO SET THIS
EVERY TIME WHEN I SET UP A DOS PROGRAM…
SOME SYSTEM INFO
MCT (CLONE) 486DX 33MHZ WITH 8MEG RAM
TSENG BASED SVGA WITH 1MEG RAM
2 PHYSICAL HARD DRIVES
1 CDROM
USUSAL FLOPPY & STANDARD I/O PORT CONFIGURATION
OS2 2.1 & DOS 6.0 – DUAL BOOT
RUNNING NOVELL NETWARE 3.12 (DEVICE DRIVERS LOADED IN OS2 & DOS6)
ANI PRO VER 1.3
I AM RUNNING AAPRO 1.3 AND I BELIEVE 3DS 2.0
AS FAR AS 3DS IS CONCERNED I CANT EVEN GET IT TO RUN AT ALL UNDER
OS2. WHEN I ATTEMPT TO LOAD IT GET A PHAR LAP "THE CHIP IS RUNNING IN
VIRTUAL 8086 MODE" LOAD OF BUNK WHEN I ATTEMPT TO GET 3DS TO RUN.
I HAVE THE NOTEBOOK SETTINGS THE SAME AS THE ONES I GET AAPRO TO WORK WITH.
SO THATS THAT – ANY COMMENTS ARE WELCOME…
REGARDS,
BRIAN

Neither of these packages are DPMI compliant. 3DS R3 and AniPro
1.3a both are DPMI compliant.

What is the difference between AApro 1.3 and 1.3a?

"What is the difference between AApro 1.3 and 1.3a?"
Here, from the readme.doc:
AUTODESK ANIMATOR PRO(TM) 1.3 README.DOC
CHANGES IN AUTODESK ANIMATOR PRO 1.3A
EXTENDED CHARACTERS ADDED TO POSTSCRIPT FONTS
The PostScript (R) fonts now supplied with the Animator Pro v1.3a
software include extended characters, primarily for international use.
You can access these by depressing the <Alt> key while typing in the
appropriate ASCII code (Code Page 850).
NEW POSTSCRIPT FONTS
Animator Pro v1.3a includes PostScript fonts on CD-ROM.
A subset of 18 of these .PFB fonts are duplicated in Animator Pro v1.3a
Although many of these 18 .PFB fonts have the same name as the
corresponding .PFB fonts found in Autodesk 3D Studio, they
are not identical fonts. With the exception of IGLESIA.PFB and
RSCANAI.PFB, all other PostScript font files in Animator
Pro v1.3a are provided courtesty of ANIM8, Inc. and are Copyright
1993 by ANIM8, Inc.
NEW UNZAG BUTTON FOR TEXT
Autodesk Animator Pro 1.3a now has an Unzag button available
on the Font Requestor when a PostScript font is loaded.
When the Unzag button is on, the fonts are antialiased via
oversampling when they are rendered. This isn't apparent when
you are editing text, but the softer edges are noticeable after rendering.
SUPPORT FOR JPEG FILES
Autodesk Animator Pro 1.3a now contains a jpeg.pdr file
that allows reading and writing of JPEG and JFIF pictures.
DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF PHAR LAP
Autodesk Animator Pro 1.3a now uses standard Phar Lap 4.1
DOS Extender technology , which can improve loading speed
(compared to v1.3) when running as a DOS application under
Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) . Please note that the supplied
Flitape and Flipaper software both use Phar Lap 2.6, thus
its possible to have an environment in which Autodesk
Animator Pro 1.3a runs but in which Flitape and Flipaper won't
run.
And how does a licensed user of AniPro 1.3 obtain this nifty 1.3a? This is
the first I've heard of it!
"And how does a licensed user of AniPro 1.3 obtain this nifty 1.3a? This is
the first I've heard of it!"
Ssshhh! It was not an announced released, as it is regarded as a bug fix here
in the U.S. During the course of 1.3's life, we received reports of some
memory-related issues that we fixed and had planned to include in the
international version of AAPro 1.3 (non U.S. versions of our products are
usually released later than the U.S. versions).
We decided that we could slip the international version into the U.S. product,
since there are only trivial differences (unless you were a customer with one
of the memory problems!).
We have been supplying AAPro 1.3 customers with the 1.3a update if they had
sent in a bug form with a problem that is fixed in 1.3a.
Nik
Nik,
This is great news about 1.3a. I bet your dealers are really lapping it up
<grin>. (Haven't heard from my dealer in 2 years.)
Chuck Jameson
Silver Tongue Software
We've been having weird problems with AniPro 1.3 which we never sent in a
bug report on because we thought they were caused by QEMM 7.1 (on one of our
machines, AniPro 1.3 will not load if QEMM is loaded, but will if we boot with
HIMEM.SYS/EMM386.EXE instead). Is this one of the problems that 1.3a may fix?
QEMM has never been a problem with AAPro 1.3. There are possible QEMM
configurations which can make AAPro unable to run, however. More likely
there's something that a review of the config/autoexec files could fix.
In product support here, most of us use QEMM. I have QEMM 7.1.
Nik
When using QEMM 6.0 and above you need to disable the DPMI compliance in order
for AAPRO and 3DS to work. Usually there is a line in Config.sys/Autoexec with
QDPMI init somewhere. The switch or line with that in it needs to be deleted.
-Brian
DISable the DPMI — got it. That should also save on UMBs. I added the
DPMI specifically because I thought Phar Lap would like it.
