Hello
I have read some news in a Mailbox in Munich/Germany about the CEBIT and
the CD-expansion for the A-1200.
It was at the show, but only a prototyp. It looks like a discman, but
there was no information about the price. It seems that we can order this
baby in near future. But the guys from C= had no idea about the shipments
of the CD-expansion for the A-4000. (bad luck for me)
On the show was also a comparison of the game Microcosm on a 486 PC a
MegaCD and the CD-32.(with a slogan "compare yourself")

Robert,
I wonder if Commodore will do the same 'Compare yourself' promotion with
say a 3DO or CD-i machine. That is the real competition.

The problem is that on the 3DO or CD-i isn4t any version of Microcosm,
right ?
The second is that in germany arent many 3DO or CD-i sold. So they arent a
real competitor.

Actually the CD-i version of Microcosm is due any time now. Not sure if
there is going to be a 3DO version.
It should come as no surprise that CD32 eats the PC and the Sega CD. I
would be impressed with this 'compare for youself' campaign if they took
on the machines that will be the competition here in the United States.

What good is the CD32 version of Microcosm if it only released in PAL???

I believe there is an NTSC version of Microcosm for CD32. It is part of
the bundle supposed to be shipped here in the US.

If you get a chance check out the April issue of Stereo Review, it has a
four page test report on a Panasonic FZ-1 real 3DO. After reading it, I
wouldn't run out and buy one real soon, maybe next year…..

What was it they didn't like?
I am not one to listen to magazine reviews. I am still perplexed as to
why so many people are not impressed with it. I find the machine to be
terribly exciting.
Perhaps it is the quality of the titles that impresses me, but at $499 I
think the machine is quite a bargain.
CD32 looks very interesting too… but the title availability scares me.
For example.. I want Mad Dog Macree for it. Is it coming?

I come from England and right now there are well over 50 titles available
for it. M.D.M i think will be out by the end of this year.

I agree with the terribly exciting , I just purchased one (for $399) while I
only got a few titles, F17, Project X, and D/Generation, I received inside a
cupon for a free microcasm and chaos engine. I am also excited about the amount
of developers that are signing on. I think, that if C= can find the money to
advertise it a little, It could really take off. I have ordered the upgrade to
my SAS compiler, and I hope to be developing some stuff of my own soon. I would
like to see this be another winner for C=.
I came from my local dealer, and they had over 15 titles in stock and plentiful
pletiful. It'll be just a matter of weeks before you see a surge in titles
available for the machine. Patience…. Catya,
Here in the UK availability is high for CD32 games. They also seem to be
selling well with 38.5% of all CD software sales being made for the CD32. This
is ahead of PC-CDROMs and they have been out for ages.
Also the charts compiled by Callup, in the UK, show that at number 1 and 2
there are both original games developed for the machine, not just ports. They
are Liberation and Labyrinth of Time.
The machine now has 50 titles available with more than 200 in production for
the platform.
For software coming out for the CD32, look at the games listings in one of the
Amiga forums, it shows all of them coming out soon.
PS An real, firm news on a possible CD expansion for the 1200?

Liberation looks pretty good, but they screwed something up when they
ported to NTSC for us here in the US. In the intro, the movement on the
screen and the sound are WAY out of synch. I was with a PC friend at the
time who thought it looked good, but…

I am curious would you buy one if the following were true:
1. CD Interface requires the expansion bay under the A1200?
2. No MPEG playback?

Yes I probably would buy the expansion, depending on the price. For these specs
it would probably be fairly cheap-ish. I think I wouldn`t mind just being able
to play CD32 disc`s on my 1200.
All I hope is that Commodore bring one out, soon and at a reasonable price. If
you get any news please tell me.

I was thinking about an A1200 with CD (I still have a rather enhanced
A2000). Thinking that MPEG wasn't really required. After having seen the
MPEG in action on the CD32 though, I don't think I'd be happy without it.
I think I'll just go buy a CD32 (after my vacation, ahh the isle of St.
Martin, FWI, three weeks, waiting, waiting, waiting).

Last I heard, Commodore Executives were rethinking the feasability of producing
a CD-Rom Add on for the A1200. They Claim it would be difficult because the
A1200 has a different gate Array than that of the CD32. They are definitly
producing the A4000 Drive though. It is due sometime this summer. They are
suffering from the A570 fiasco on the A500.
