#London Amiga Shops?

I'll be traveling to the UK in April. Any suggestions for really cool
Amiga stores in London? 🙂

For anything concerning the Amiga in London – or throughout England – I
suggest that you get in touch with John and Janet Bickerstaff. You met
them at Devcon in Orlando – had lunch with us at least once, maybe more.
They really know what is going on with the Amiga over there. The phone
number if have is 01-651-5436, but I think that first part has been
changed to 071 since I recorded this. They live in Croydon, Surrey – just
outside London.
I know they'd be pleased to hear from you.

It its Croydon it will be 081, 071 is for central London.

I don't think they ever miss any kind of show, and they would truly be
delighted to see you. By the way – that prefix to their phone number
would be 081 rather than 01, I'm told. Seems that central London is now
071, and the Croydon area where they live is 081.

The traditional electronics shop region is Tottenham Court Road (there's an
underground station of that name; ramble north from there and peer in windows).
But as in North America, the major retail store concentrations often do poor
justice to anyone who wants real technical info (or Amiga offerings for that
matter). Browse some of the many UK mags (they are kinda heavy on games, but
there's other stuff), and definitly follow Betty's suggestion of contacting
ICPUG – the Bickerstaffs et al.

Its difficult to find shops that carry much Amiga stuff these days apart
from games. If you are after games, the big HMV shop in Oxford Street and
the Virgin Megastore on the corner of Oxford Street and Tottenham Court
Road stock quite a few. The only shop I know that sells serious Amiga
hardware and software is Silica Shop in Tottenham Court Road. There is
another place in Tottenham Court Road that used to sell some Amiga
hardware, I think it is called Datel.

Thanks. Yep, I play games too, those stores look like they're worth
checking out.
Not good to hear it's hard to find Amiga stuff in the last stronghold of
the machine, though. 🙁

There is good stuff available by mail order. Most of the shops that I have
found concentrate on popular products that are likely to have a good
turnover. There may be small specialist shops where you can find the
serious stuff, I'd be interested to hear if anyone knows of any.
HMV and Virgin Games often have special reductions on some recent games so
its worth checking them both if you have the time. For example, today
Virgin were selling Zool 2 for 9.99 and HMV had Skidmarks for 15.99. I
think the Virgin Games Centre is now under new management although they
have not changed the name, they often have different offers from the
Megastore.
