MorphPlus Tutorial

I have been trying to go through the tutorials for Morphing using the new ADPro 2.5 interface and am having problems with the Morph sequence: Lesson 4, Morphing An Owl Into a Baby. The main problem is that the tutorial as outlined in the Morph Plus literature is different from what appears on the screen, and I am finding it impossible to follow. I have gotten as far as Creating a Project. I chose Project/New/Still Morph as directed, and got the Still Morph Project control panel. There is a slight difference here, as the tutorial indicates there is a "Select Project" button. Actually, there is no such button on my screen, but buttons for "Project Name," "Source Image," and "Destination Image." I chose ArtDepartment Pro/Projects for the "Project Name," and "owl.pic" and "baby.pic" for the Source and Destination images respectively. However, when I choose "Accept," I get a "Project Options" panel instead of a "Refresh Images control panel" as the tutorial indicates. There are no illustrations in the manual, so I cannot tell how different the panel I'm getting is from the one I should get. All I know is that none of the directions from that point on make any sense. I set the "Precision" button to "High Quality" (instead of setting a "GUI Image Resolution" cycle gadget to "High Resolution"…this seemed like the same thing.) However, there is nothing in the Project Options box to indicate how to set "Generate All", and no directions in the tutorial on how to set the Output Sequence. I've tried different methods of setting this, but I keep getting error messages. Can you give me some insight into how this tutorial should continue? Is there an update of your literature that I could get that reflects this new box? I really am lost, but really want to make an animation morph for a project I'm working on, and am finding it difficult to learn when the tutorial differs so greatly from what appears on the screen. I realize that creating a morph is very complex, and so far, I had followed the tutorials 1 through 3 successfully. However, this last one is very frustrating. If I could get updated literature or something, that would be great. Thank you for your assistance in this regard. Jeannine Deubel 73552,3617

Unfortunately, the Owl 2 Baby tutorial is a bit out of sync w/ the program itself. When you get to the point where it tell you you should see the 'Refresh Gui Images' panel and instead, you see the 'Project Options' panel, you should skip a few pages ahead in the tutorial and follow the instructions for 'Project Options'. When that part is completed and you click 'Accept', you will then see the 'Refresh Gui Images' panel and you may proceed normally w/ the tutorial. Chris Edgin ASDG tech.

Chris Edgin, Thanks for the help with the Morph tutorial. I thought I was pressing the wrong button to get that Project Options menu at this time in the tutorial sequence. I'm sure it will all make sense to me now. I also wanted to let you know that the more I work with the ADPro 2.5 interface, the more I like the new buttons and menu arrangement. It took a few days to really get used to it (after spending 4 years or so with the old interface…change is hard for me at my age), and I do shut the button interface off so that the display looks more like the one I'm used to, but it does seem to make my work go a bit faster. I guess that the only thing that I hope ASDG can add eventually is some sort of interface that would allow the user to define a small section of the image being worked on (by directly drawing an oval, rectangle, etc. on the image) and having an operator work only on that small section without affecting the rest of the image. One other thing that might be useful eventually is to be able to define an area of the image by color so that it might be outlined more easily. I now take it into DPaint to do that work, but the problem with DPaint is that it if you're working on an image smaller than the screen, DPaint automatically saves the entire background when you save the changed image, which makes the user have to recrop it once it's back in ADPro. I know it's a small thing, but there it is. Once again, thanks for the help on the tutorial. I'm really looking forward to working on my animation now. Jeannine Deubel
