Mr. Mayhall, hello. My name is Tyler Colwell and I am a Registered Professional Engineer in the states of California and Nevada (Mechanical Engineer). I am forming a company to provide accident reconstruction and animation for courtroom applications (essentially Forensic Engineering with animation). From the name of your company it appears that you may be involved in a similar field. True? I would like to periodically converse with you about this field and bounce questions off of you. Would this be OK?

I, too am very interested in carrying on about same – my business partner is a lawyer, and he wants us to get into such things <g>! Maybe we should take it private?

Hi Mike, where are you located… what kind of work is your firm currently involved in… what is your background? A little about myself: I live in the Lake Tahoe area. I have extensive experience in machinery diagnostics, seminar instruction, and animation. The area I plan to service will include Northern California and Nevada. Let's Chat!

I'm in Charleston, S.C… I own a computer retail/repair store, and have been doing 3DS (almost exclusively broadcast design) for about 6 months, now… I have 21+ years experience in the computer industry, and would like to (plan to!) get into the 'accident reconstruction' field, but need a little boost to get started – it's not like anything I've done so far! <g>…

Holy Cow! You plan to provide the same services as my company. I am an experienced Ansys user, as well as 3D Studio. My background includes extensive experience in machinery diagnostics (which is similar to event reconstruction in many ways), seminar instruction in machinery vibration analysis, and animation. I am very interested in finding ways to interface dynamic analysis results with the 3D animation process. Have you found a clean way to do this?

HI Tyler! I am very interested in hearing more about your company. I have about ten years experience as an AeroSpace Engineer, first at Rockwell International on the (B1-Bomber) then at a Naval Air Station in The San Francisco Bay on Naval aircraft (F-14 Tomcat , F-18 Hornet , P-3 Orion, S-3 Viking, A-6 Intruder). I design and perform analysis on variety of complex aircraft components and tooling using Computer Vision WorkStations to run Ansys and CADDS FEM and 486 Personel Computers to run Algor, Autocad, 3D-Studio, Animator Pro, and Adobe Photo Shop. Now to answer your question. Using Algor script capability , Pizzaz Plus, Action Animator (Diaquest), Animator Pro, Adobe Photo Shop and a Turbo Basic Program I wrote to do my VTR based on line edits. I have been able to consistently produce Broadcast Quality Video of Transient Heat Transfer, Eigen Vector displacement, Fluid Flow , Force displacement and Stress flow for Algor and Ansys. I would venture to say that the process is relatively straight forward and that I use Algors' Script functions in about the same way that I use 3D-Studios' Key Frame Editor. Good-Bye

Hi George, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I have been on vacation. There's really not a lot to tell right now about my company, since it is still in the conceptual stage. I am still in the process of determining what the need is out there. My experience is in machinery diagnostics, troubleshooting large rotating machinery utilizing vibration data, etc. I also have experience in modeling and analysis of rotating machinery components, which is where the Ansys experience comes from. Thanks for the info regarding interfacing the analysis process with the animation process. Another question(s): do you plan on rendering your animations to video tape? And if so do you have or plan to have the necessary hardware, or will you have a studio do that for you? If you do have the hardware, what is it? How much does it cost to get equipped for this? What do studios charge? Obviously, only answer what you can. Looking forward to hearing from you… TC
