Internet Address?

Could someone tell me what my Internet mail address would be if mail was
sent to me here at CIS?
TIA!
Paul
Paul,
Your internet address here on CIS would be:
71024.3245@compuserve.com
The address is case sensitive and you have to use a period instead of the
comma in your CIS user ID.
=Rick=
To send mail from the Internet to your account on CIS, the mail should be
addressed to 71024.3245@compuserve.com
Your Internet address would be 71024.3245@compuserve.com
To send a message to yourself, precede the above address with >INTERNET:
—Betty
Where do I put the >INTERNET: part, in the address field?
Paul
I believe you write the address as "INTERNET: foobar" where you would
normally input "numbers, numbers" to get the mail sent to the internet.
Better yet, use AutoPilot and the "Internet" button to send Internet mail.

If you are sending yourself a message, the full address, in the address
field, would be:
>INTERNET:71024.3245@compuserve.com
If you were using AutoPilot, you would put just the part after the colon
into the address field, and would select the Internet button on the main
screen in order to send the message. AutoPilot automatically adds the
first part to any Internet message sent by selecting that button.
To send yourself a message from some internet site other than CompuServe,
you only need the last part – 71024.3245@compuserve.com
NOte that the comma in your ID number HAS to be changed to a period, and
the remainder has to be in lower case.

Is Internet really case-sensitive? I know Unix is case-sensitive, but there
are lots of other OSs on the Internet and I always assumed it was case-blind.
PS: Compuserve seems to be eating a number of my messages in the Amiga forums
lately. Is this a known bug?
I believe addresses in Internet mail are not case sensitive.
Internet addresses can be case sensitive — it depends on the system
addressed and the system you send from. Some (few) mail systems convert
everything to upper (or lower) case. Some mail systems have
case-sensitive user names (and hence user-parts of addresses).
In general, I write everything in lowercase unless the address I have been
given has a user name in mixed case or the address uses a gateway to route
through a non-Internet machine.

If some gateways (say, a VMS VAX) are turning everything to uppercase, doesn't
that wreak havoc with systems that are case sensitive?
I'm sure that if you try to send things from one stupid system to another
stupid system, you might have problems. If either side is reasonable,
there should be no problem. No stupid systems are allowed to route any
volume of mail, so you should never run into the problem of a stupid
machine between you and where you are getting unless there is a stupid
machine at your site.
Stupid networks presumably have gateways that enforce their own stupidity.

John,
VAX/VMS is not case sensitive.
A VMS machine can perform 'non-stupidly' as an internet system. It can
pass news, email, ftp, etc.
You simply need a decent TCP/IP package and there are several _excellent_
ones that do better at keeping up with RFC's than some of the UNIX boxes
do. 🙂
Dale.. stupid indeed.
I was a VAX/VMS administrator for six years. 🙂

I didn't say VAX/VMS was stupid. I'll say it now, but not because it does
or does not do TCP/IP well. 🙂

Well you responded to John Foust when he mentioned VAX/VMS. 🙂
VAX/VMS is designed to make system administrators look good. It has got
to be one the least hassle oriented OSes on a mini computer.

I'll second that.
I really hated the file system structure…
It's archaic by todays standards, but it still has it's uses.

Jim,
I'm not aware of any problem with CompuServe losing messages. I'm sure
you know how the system works and that it only shows you the ones you have
not read before, so I won't go into that. I don't know what could be the
cause.
As for the internet, I've been told that it was case-sensitive, but that
could have been true when I was using a Usenet account at one of the local
universities and not be true here. I had formed the habit, and kept it –
but I've been told by others here that it is. Of course, they may have
formed the habit just as I did. Guess I'll have to check it out sometime
and see what happens.
