Last night I rendered some animation and when I played it back this morning,
the colors are all wrong. Actually, what I am getting is a shift of color. It
looks like each frame has different colors in it.
Also the image has some registration problems. It is a 130 frame animation, and
somewhere in the middle, the bottom of the frame can be seen and jumps almost
like a film projector would do if you lost the loop.
The last animation I did also had a color problem, but it only happened on a
couple of frames, but this is throughout the entire scene.
Any ideas of what I can do to correct this?

Are the color problems in the saved images only or in the Toaster Framestores
in general? If your entire Toaster output has garbled color, you probably have
something interfereing with the toaster through the parellel port. My Parnet
cable will sometimes screw everything up.

The color problem is only with the animation that I rendered last night. It was
rendered to one of the Flyer drives. All of the other files on that drive
playback fine.
So, it must have something to do with Lightwave while it was rendering.

Do you have that 'required' test clip still sitting on your Flyer drive?
NewTek confirmed yesterday that you shouldn't delete it, but the tech I
spoke with didn't know why either. Maybe I'll go to the top today.
Afterall, it would be nice to know what it does.

Yep, my Test Clip is on the drive. Let me know what you find out as to why it
must be there.
BTW, I've got two Seagate 9GB hard drives. Both certified. I am still getting
some stuttering. It only happens in maybe two clips out of 50, but it is there.
So, we can't blame this on the Quantim.

The usual question – is there any pattern (timing, same clip, after
certain effects) to the stutter? NewTek detailed some on the know bug
list. Do any of them fit the pattern/conditions?

The stutter repeats itself five times. It usually happens right at the
beginning of a clip or right at the end of a clip.
I haven't noticed it in the middle. Both the picture and sound stutter
together. It really does look a lot like the Max Headroom TV show. Or like a
Woody Woodpecker.

When you recorded the animation did you use LOCK PALLET? When Lightwave renders
a frame it uses an avalible pallet of 16.whatever million colors. when it
reduces those colors to Ham8 each frame will end up with its own pallet. When
frames with diferent pallets are played in sequence there can be some very
noticable shifts. If you use Lock Pallet you can dicide what frames pallet you
want to use, and use that pallet for all the frames.

I didn't use LOCK PALLET. I'm not even sure I know where it is, but I'll look.
The scene that I rendered was created via Hollywood FX.
Now that I think of it, the last three scenes that I rendered using Hollywood
FX had a color problem.

Lock Palette is just under the ANIM TYPE button on the record panel. Next to it
is a Lock Palette Frame number. The only time that you really need to worry
about this is when you first frame is not the best representation of colors in
the animation. For example, a space scene were the camera pans from a black sky
to a colorful nebula. Give it a shot, this could be the problem…

The registration problem you discribe >>jumps almost like a film projector
would do if you lost the loop<< sounds like a problem I have had with heat
buildup.
With the first version of the software I got back in December this was a
constant problem but has gotten better with the last couple of updates.
Try removing the cover and adding a fan to cool the three chips.
The color problem could also be due to heat buildup.

I don't think it is a heat problem. The only time I seem to have this problem
is when I render something in Lightwave. The video clips look fine.
It may have something to do with using Hollywood FX with the Flyer. The first
day that I got the Flyer, I had Lightwave render one of the scenes that came
with the program. Then I tried one from one of the Lightwave Pro magazine
disks. These came out just fine.
It has only happened when I try and do something with Hollywood FX. That may be
the problem. But, thanks for your suggestion.
