Need some tech support or perhaps a "We built it that way that year" said with
Sympathy. I'm an old Amiga user that hasn't become expert on PC jargon, busses
,etc.
Just got a Pentium-100 PCI machine and Im 3.2. How fitting. When I used to
run Im on wife's 8MB 486 dx 50 the following was a nuisance, since only
practice stuff could be done anyway. Now, would really like to know if I can
fix the display modes.
REAL PROBLEM is in displaying rendered images. The SuperVGA menu pulls down
with one choice:"Show Available Display Modes" and when I select it, it tells
me "No VESA Display Modes available." OK. Still, isn't there anything I can
do to display the image in a display mode suitable to a Pentium ISA/PCI
machine? that 320x200x256 display forces me to go out to other s/w to see
serious images that Image is quite happy to create.
Also, 3.2 now opens with message: "Requested Screen mode is not supported
through VESA interface." Well, "OK", since I'm running off PCI bus, that's no
surprise. Then Imagine opens up with 640×400 display. Checking preferences,
that's what is requested(and its what I want for the control panel functions.)
Why tell me that its not supported thru VESA then give it to me anyway? Am I
missing something obvious to more experienced PC dudes?

What Video Board are you using? You may need a universal VESA driver to get
round the problem. As VESA is not directly related to VL bus it is possible
your video card does not support it directly

The graphics standard called VESA has nothing to do with the bus architecture
known as VESA LOCAL BUS.
Imagine 3.0 and on recognizes the VESA 1.2 graphics standard. If your video
card is not VESA compliant, then Imagine will not recognize what video modes
you have available.
You can do 2 things. You can try to get updated video drivers for your
graphics card from the graphics card manufacturer. You can also get the
Universal Vesa Driver program(s) that will give your system VESA 1.2
compatibility. The latest version can be found in the GRAPHSUP forum, I
believe the filename is UVBE50.ZIP.

Thanks for suggesting the Universal Vesa Driver program(s). They seemed to fix
my missing VESA driver problems and don't seem to have caused any new ones.
Their enclosed known bug report indicates that there is some sort of memory
page management problem which may ocurr with chips including my cirrus chips,
but I have not experienced it yet.
The current name in the GRAPHSUP library is UNIVBE.ZIP and that gets version
5.0. Thanks again for your successful suggestion.

Glad you got it working for ya, and thanks for the filename as it's found in
GRAPHSUP. The name I gave you is how version 5.0 was uploaded to GRAPHDEV.
