What???? What are you writing? 3DS is going out for NT!!!??? What are you thinking about, guys!? What a stupid move! NT is a Microsoft product! I can't believe this! This is insane! What is going after this? Are you going to port it to the silly PowerMacs too!? On LSD, ana /krazy images ps.hehehe 😉 Now seriously (really? <bg>) Jonas, I thought that Adesk was going to move to something more serious than NT, like the SNES, the Saturn or maybe the Playstation. What happened with that strategy?

We're waiting for the PCI-based Playstation, Ana. – G

Gary, >> We're waiting for the PCI-based Playstation, Ana. << you may all be joking but you can use the Playstation development system to import 3ds files and view them and spin them around with great speed. 'Course you'll probably need a programmer to right the conversion software and stuff, but it makes a nice hardware texture-mapped, gouraud-shaded polygon model viewing machine <G>.

The thing is that we are NOT joking. Are we? 🙂 Interesting stuff about the Playstation. Have you heard about that 3DO card that could be plugged on a PC? Maybe Gus will write an IPAS for that <g>

Ana, >> Have you heard about that 3DO card that could be plugged on a PC? << yes, I have. But I don't think it's good value. I'd save my pennies for the Playstation – it's the hottest thing out there.

Martin, Ana, Playstation is real hot in Japan, but it's only R3000 based. The Nintendo machine will be on more recent MIPS technology. Bruce

Bruce, >> The Nintendo machine will be on more recent MIPS technology. << yes, but it's still a ways off (read "vapour"). The current development system/ demo system is something like an Indigo 2/Extreme or an Onyx.

The Playstation sounds and looks great. Did you get any of the Japanese versions there? ana /krazy images

Ana, >> The Playstation sounds and looks great. Did you get any of the Japanese versions there? << while I was at Virgin Games we had Japanese versions of Sega Saturns and Sony PS-X's. They both had good games, but people seemed most impressed with "Toshinden" the 3d fighting game. "Ridge Racer" on the PS-X looks good too.

Which one is the playstation? That doesn't sound real familiar, but then again, I don't hover over the home game systems like I did when I was 14. I think I still have that old Atari…

Tim, >> Which one is the playstation? << that's Sony's PS-X machine. The PS is the acronym for Playstation.

Tim, re: Sony's PS-X machine. >> What does it have that other don't? << it seems to have the fastest "real-world" gouraud-shaded, textured-poly performance – for a home platform. Well demonstrated in Sony's 3d fighting game "Toshinden" – makes "Virtua Fighter" on the Saturn look a bit sad. I heard Sega is running scared with its Saturn because of the Sony and may rework it for the US market. Regardless, the Saturn has done well in Japan because they have some great games.

Sounds like quite a machine. I popped over to the video games forum and downloaded a bunch of info on it.

A Mips R3000 processor, I think, for some awesome real-time 3D stuff. -Alan

>>A Mips R3000 processor, I think, for some awesome real-time 3D stuff.<< Let's hope for some really cool stuff. I tire of the standard side scrolling shoot-bounce-smash-em-ups. I bought a Sega Genesis and a SNES a couple of years ago and haven't touched either of them since two months after I bought them. Still keep coming back to computer games…

I think you'll see a BIG difference the PS, Tim. -Alan

I've been trying to get the Playstation file format from Sony, but so far, all that's happened is they keep sending me NDAs, and I keep signing them… The give-away demo renders for RenderWare, RenderMorphics and BRender are nifty Windows-based viewers of 3D models, once you've got a converter that turns 3DS into their formats…

Sorry, I forgot. BTW, I have heard that Nintendo is going to port D'Kong Country to the Alpha and NT? I think that this port will be a good proof about how solid is NT and that it is the right platform for 3DS. I am sure that the critics of the move towards NT are going to be more relaxed now that they know about this. You know, I still think that your reasons are not good enough, but this DKC port really makes me see things in new way. Now I can get that Alpha board for the DEC and take out something else out of it than just plain speed for 3DS. How boring. ana /krazy images
