#Checksum Error

Whenever I access one of two hard drives, I've started getting a checksum error
on block 512, then block 286711 and finally block -2130391844. Retry sends the
screen into pandemonium from which it doesn't recover. Cancel allows me to keep
working.
What's going on, how can I fix it?

Your harddrive may be dying. Back it up, lowlevel format it, high level format
it, then restore. If that doesn't resolve the problem, you may have just lost
the drive.

I think your best bet would be to try DiskSalv from our Disk Utilities library.
I've had only the best of luck with it from the earliest version.

Looks like I have an excuse to get Cross Dos for my Amiga. I'm online on a PC,
so downloading DiscSav won't save me quite yet. Thanks for the thought though!

If you have OS 2.1 or later, you already have CrossDOS as part of your system.
And if not, then you ought to have CrossDOS anyway. <G>

Your recommendation to download disksalv worked. It took most of the afternoon
to run, but it seems to have repaired checksum problem. Again, thanks!
