Maxon is the kind of company which is marketing things other companies
or individuals are not big enough to place in the market of their own.
One recent product they sell, is a new version of the HiSoft basic
compiler including support for OS3.1.
Other software they are marketing:
.)Maxon C++3, the package you were asking for, is a real C++ compiler
system with AT&T C++ 3.0 support with exeption handling and templates.
It of course understands ANSI C too. The user interface comprises of
a not so bad editor (Edward), a make utility and a project administra-
tion tool. You can chose either german or english for the user inter-
face, the compiler itself "is" english. I am not sure whether the doc-
umentation can be ordered in english, too.
.) Maxon Pascal: Pascal-compiler with OS3.1 support
.) Maxon Basic as mentioned above
.) Maxon Cinema 4D: raytracing and animation program
.) Maxon Tools: a directory tool like DirOpus
.) Maxon Twist: a (relational) database program
.) Maxon CAD: a CAD program
.) Maxon ASM: a assembler supporting all processors upto the 030.
A scaled down version of it is part of the C++ system.
.) Maxon HotHelp: a hypertext help-tool very similar to AmigaGuide,
but better. It supports several editors directly (others of course through an
ARexx port) and also the shell through the use of hotkeys.
Furthermore you can make AmigaGuide docs part of the used helpfiles.
I explain it in such detail, because it is part of the C++ system.
.) Maxon Word: They had a word processor with that name but obviously
the original developers do not support it any more.
All the above mentioned programs are well known to the german speaking
Amiga users (I'm Austrian). All of them got very good marks in most if
not all of the several monthly german Amiga magazines.
Now to the best part: Maxon can be reached via CI$!

I noticed your post on Maxon products and was curious about Maxon Twist.
Do you have any more details, similarities or whether it's vector driven.
I haven't seen Maxon products advertised out here.
I would have posted to Juergen or Markus but I'm not sure whether they
speak english and my Deutsch is schrecklich.

As far as I know, learning English is compulsory in German schools. So don't be
afraid and try it 😉
I did have to write this, because I do not know much about Maxon Twist. I do
own several Maxon products, but not that one. I have seen something about it in
one of the monthly german Amiga publications but unfortunately I was not able
to find the article (The only thing I can remember is that it is much faster in
terms of finding data and exporting/importing than Superbase 1.3. (10:1 or
so)).
The one and only thing I can do is to translate a part of Maxon's advertising
publication called MaxonMail (They send it periodically to registered users).
Please note that this is only what they think the program is able to
do and capable of and that I'm trying to shorten it down to essetial features:
. The current release is 2.0.
. It is capable of using graphics, music, speech and even animations
in the "presentation space". E.g. an address database with picture and voice of
the stored persons can be made.
. Full support of Amiga datatypes (from Kick/WB 3.0 on)
. Fieldtypes of upto 30.000 characters
. Compressed datatypes using only the space actually needed
. Full clipboard support
. Intelligent search fuction; if you search for "Meier" you will find "Maier",
"Mayr", "Mayer", etc… (You have to think of an english equivalent of your own
😉 )
. "Online relations and compound dialogs": if you have a dialog and type in the
postal code, the city's name will be presented even if it is stored in a
completely different database. (?)
For this purpose so called "compound masks" are used.
. Real 1:N-, N:1-, N:M-Relations can be implemented.
. Automatical report system.
. Dialog editor with snap function.
. 3D border types, …
. Possbility to calculate with date and time: When is a person going to be
10.000 days old and which day of the week is that? You can type in "+2" into a
date entry field, the date of the day after tomorrow will be calculated
automatically.
. Full ARexx support; the program can be totally controlled through it.
. AmigaDOS 2.0, harddisk and 1.5 MB Mem are the minimum requirements
. Price is DM 348,– (German Marks, about USD 205 (Austrian exchange rates) I
do not know the exchange rate of AUS $ 🙁 )
. A demo version is available in Maxon's support BBS, the number is +49 6196

Now again me: I do not know, whether the program is available in english. If

(maybe german schools are not as good as I expected them to be 😉 )), feel

HiSoft (who I work for, but they don't pay for this account) have the English
language rights for Twist (the product is actually by a Danish developer). In
the US its sold by Oregon Research who I think have a CIS account, or there
Internet mail address is "orres@teleport.com". Elsewhere you can get info from
"hisoft@cix.compulink.co.uk".
I wouldn't suggest mailing me here as I only exercise my CIS account once in a
blue moon 🙂

Gerhard, I caught your thread on the Maxon products, and I must say that you
have some great hardware and software developed in Germany, and so much of it
never sees the light of day in the UK. I've been in Berlin several times on
business, and I always buy
one of the German Amiga mags, and although I can't speak or read the language
(to my embarrassment), I do love to look at the ads and check out the prices. I
for one would love Maxxon C++, Maxxon ASM and certainly Maxxon Cinema 4D
available in the UK in English. So come on HiSoft, pull your fingers out and

First of all, I have to say that I'm Austrian and not German. I do not have
this special language problem but it's often not easy to get these products in
Austria as well.
In terms of Maxons's products, I switched completely from looking for them in
Austria, to ordering them directly from Maxon in Germany.
Unfortunately there have been several problems in doing so, because of taxes,
long delays in delivering and so on (Beginning with 1995 Austria is now member
of the European Community, maybe that will ease things a bit).
As far as hardware is concerned, your problem in getting it is not bigger than
mine – buy a german magazine and order it (I have the same difficulties
regarding warranty etc.).
Maybe you have noticed Alex Kiernan's posting saying that Maxon Twist
originally was and is being developed by some Danish (not German) developer (I
only wanted to show, that other Europeans play their parts in the Amiga
business as well).
As well as you do, I would like to see Maxon's products converted, the market
would be a much bigger then, new versions would much easier be produced. I for
one would prefer a multi-language version using the locale library available
from AmigaDOS 2.1 on, because regardless which mother tongue the developer
speaks, conversions would not take that much time.
Let's hope for the future!

There's no need to be sorry, I've only tried to work out the fact, that
speaking German (as well as using and writing programs in German) has not
implecitely to be done by a German. 🙂
I definitely do not have problems with Germans at all, and yes – we are all
part of the Union.
