Anyone out there using SCALA with a 1200 and GVP G-Lock?
I'm having a heck-of-a-time getting these three pieces working together. I can
get the G-Lock to work with the 1200, and I can use SCALA okay, but when I have
the G-Lock connected to the 1200 SCALA can't find the #@%$ key. SCALA just
doesn't seem to recognize the key when it is in the mouse port with the mouse.
Any suggestions?

I have run into some similar problems with the key and my toaster. If I would
run the Toaster and then even shut it down, Scala wouldn't recognise the key. I
can't tell you how to fix it because I ended up reinstalling my entire system.
It had nothing to do with the problem just spring (OK winter) cleaning. But the
problem is no longer there.
My suggestion is to try a simple reinstall of SCALA first. But to put you on
the right track, let us know what version of SCALA you have and look for the
ever present John Chang. He is with SCALA and is a regular all over the nets
including CServe.

I tried a reinstall, no luck.
It seems like a basic problem of SCALA not finding the key unless it is plugged
into the joystick port, and nothing else is connected to it. The SCALA manual
does say that something like the G-Lock cannot be plugged into the key. This
leads to having to use the key on the mouse port. I've tried that, the mouse
works, but SCALA doesn't find the key. There in lies my problem.
My deatails are:
Amiga 1200 with:
GVP A1230 Turbo (68030 50MhZ)
A1291 SCSI controller – 1GB external SCSI drive
2MB Chip RAM, 4MB Fast RAM
OS 3.1
SCALA-MM300 Seriel # CEI 7295
Software Version 50.3
GVP G-Lock Seriel # VXX0001050
Running software version 1.16

know his ID off the top 'o my head. If I see it I will email back to you.
Hi Dave ! Ihad the same problem with my G-lock. Try rebooting as usual before
starting G-Lock and then start SCALA before you click on the G-Lock icon again.
When Scala is running you can start G-Lock anytime. Well, at least that is the
way it works with my system. I am using an A-2000B plus G-Force 40.

On some A1200s the dongle will not work with the mouse. Obvisouly your
system is one of those systems. GVP has an adaptor that will move the
G-lock connector that normally goes into the joystick port into the
parallel port on the machine.
Using this will solve your problem with getting the G-lock and Scala
together.

I know the SCALA folks are only trying to protect their investment, but I
really don't like dongles and am suprised SCALA is still using them.

I share your dislike of dongles, particularly when they don't work on both
ports as is appraently the case here. I don't mind a company protecting their
software, but I hate it when it keeps me from using it ligitimately.

It is Scala's belief that the 'dongle' is what has kept the software
'viable'.
It is an old argument.. and one I really don't wanna get into. 🙂

Mark; For some reason I agree with you on this piece of software. I am talking
about ICXXX. This program is an excellent product designed to be used in
specific environments. It is not a proggy that everyone uses every
once-in-while. It is dedicated.
I HATE DONGLES! But.
In this situation, if the manufacturer responds quickly and appropriately to
conflicts from the device, I support you and your stinkin' dongle 😀

This sounds like a solution that would help, of course getting anything out of
GVP is a real challenge these days, they seem to have discontinued almost
everything (the G-Lock included) Any ideas for alternative sources?

P.S. Do you know why Scala doesn't see the dongle on the mouse port? Is there
anything I can do to resolve this?
