DPAINTIV text help
7 messages in this thread
Hi;
I need some help on bending text around a curve in DPaintIV. I want to
have text follow the inside of a circle but without special effects. I've
played around with the program and have been able to distort text but I
want it undistorted. I have not found instructions in the manual on how to
do this. Is it possible and if so, how?
Thanx in advance for all suggestions.

Owen, a couple ways to bend text in DPaint….
1) write your text, then pick it up as a brush and use the BEND VERTICAL
command under the brushes menu. This does distort text, but will get it
nicely curved.
2) draw an outline of your circle, with the circle representing the
baseline of where you want the text. Then pick up each letter of your text
individually and use the ROTATE ANY ANGLE command from the brushes menu.
Position each letter where you want it on the circle, and rotate it into
position. This way each letter isn't distorted (much), but it is time
consuming. You'll have to antialias the finished product by hand to get it
to look real good, though.
Good luck.

John,
Thanx for your reply. I had tried your first suggestion, but the
distortion was too much. The second method I had thought of, but wanted to
avoid the work. If there's no other way, I gues that's what I'll do.
Thanx again for your reply.

Owen,
Have you tried picking each letter of text up as a brush and rotating it?
You will probably have to do it one letter at a time to avoid distortion.
There may be a better way but I can't think of one right now.
The video tapes that were produced for DPAINT IV has a lot of tips on
things like this.
Lots of luck!

Barry,
Thanx for your reply. I wanted to avoid the one letter at a time thing
due to the work involved, but I guess I've got no real choice. I wonder if
EA would consider it a worthwhile addition to DPaint ? There must be other
people who would want to do this.

Owen,
I agree that being able to wrap text around objects such as circles without
distortion would be very useful. As I said the first time there may be a
way to do it, I plan to investigate it more tomorrow. I enjoy using DPAINT
IV and I think it is one of the better programs for AMIGA.
Hopefully, someone else in this forum may know how.
Take Care!

The way I'd do rotated text on a circle would be, use ProDraw to wrap the
text to the circle, then do a screen save and load it into DPaint.
