To anyone with info on the following:
I downloaded a recent upload of info about using the Euro36 monitor device
to reduce flicker on an interlaced 15khz monitor (1084S). I need info
on the following subjects
1. What and where do I find a "filezapper" or whatever to edit the
overscan.prefs file find in "prefs/env-archive/sys" drawer?
2. How do I use MonEd to edit the Euro36 monitor device which I placed
in my "devs:monitors" drawer? When I start MonEd (V3) it appears with
"pal: 15.72000 khz, 60hz" with values varying when sliders adjusted. Why
does it say PAL when I don't have PAL monitor selected. MonEd says to
save values set in tool types for the monitor. When monitor selected from
tools drawer, it has no tool types at all. Is one suppose to select the
line and copy it into tools drawer? How does one use this tool?

I'm trying to get the same thing to work on my A1000/1084 system. For the tool
type part of your question, I added a NEW tool type 'TOTROWS = 0xdd". That is
the only thing I could figure out how to do. I've given up for now on trying to
get it to work. All I get is a black screen. Good luck and please let me know
if you can get it to work and how you did it.
I DL's that file, and have been using the hack.
A 'filezapper' is an editor for binary files. You can use them to alter the
bytes of a program or data file.
There are several zappers in the forums:
NEWZAP.LZH, in AmigaTech, LIB 10.
AZAP.LHA, in AmigaTech, LIB 11.
AZAP.LHA, in AmigaUser, LIB 9.
ZAP.LHA, in AmigaUser, LIB 9.
ZAPHOD.LHA, in AmigaUser, LIB 9.
DPU.LHA, in AmigaUser, Lib 9.
The filezapper is used to edit where the top of the EURO36 display is suppose
to be. In the past when I used EURO36 on *my* 1084 monitor WITHOUT the
patches, the top 5 scanlines of the display were drawer above the top of the
screen. And all the overscan adjustments in the world, didn't slide the top of
the screen down.
Also, each time you use the Overscan Pref, I believe, it will save the EURO36
driver with the bad top of screen setting, and you will have to re-Zap the
Overscan.pref file.

You don't use MonEd to edit the EURO36 monitor driver. MonEd seems to work
only for ~24 & ~31 kHz modes. Instead, click on the ICON, and use the
INFORMATION option from the WB Icons Menu. Click on the NEW button of the ICON
INFO WINDOW, and you will be allowed to add a new TOOLTYPE to the icon. Then
enter the 'TOTROWS=0xdd' hit your RETURN key, and save. (Besure you use a
ZERO, and NOT the letter "o".)
Each time the EURO36 driver is loaded during a reboot, it will read the
tooltypes, and use the extra info to modify to EURO36 defaults to refresh the
screen at 71Hz, instead of 73Hz.
And remember to adjust the V.HOLD knob on the 1084 to allow it to jump between
the NTSC & EURO36 refresh rates — if the screen rolls. You might also try a
glare screen, which can also reduce some of the flicker.

Where is the V.HOLD knob? I see 4 knobs on the back but none are V.HOLD. I have
a 1084 manufactured in 1988, is this the problem?
