Just a note for all of you who might be considering picking up a 24-bit display board. We've had the FC24 here for quite some time, and we've invested quite a bit of effort into it. And it's ok, it really is. Good for the price. But if you want something hot for your Amiga, don't even THINK about the FC24. If you can afford the thing, get a GVP PVA. It is SO nice, I can't even tell you. It makes all teh display cards I've worked with so far look like pikers; And it works as advertised. If you have been wondering about this card, I can probably answer a few of your questions. Also (of course) we've got it supported. Ben

Ben, exactly what does the PI module do with the GVP Impact board? How well does the framegrabber work? Their ad says it digitizes incoming RGB. I assume this means an RGB camera. What about freezing from video tape (using the optional adaptor), is a TBC required? What is a practical application of the PIP? That's enough for now. Thanks (BTW, give AmigaWirld credit, they published your whole ClickFax rebuttal. Think that reviewer has some explaining to do?) _John_

The current PI Module sends the image processor's output to the display, that's all. We've not yet looked into the framegrabber, as it's RGB only and we have composite sources. We (and the rest of GVP's customers) are waiting for the NTSC->RGB converter that will make the PIP and framegrabber more generally useful. Wish I could get an RGB camera, but there's no chance… I'd have almost no use for it. As for the CLickFAX rebuttal, we're pleased it was published, and they did publish it verbatim, which is nice. Art Department Professional supports both the display and capture aspects of the IV24. pk

That's good, Perry. We will too, shortly. It's good that you guys can do a few things that we can't, even if it won't last more than a few weeks. Keeps us on our toes. Maybe you'll get busy and try and deal with the large number of operations Imagemaster can do that AdPro can't, eh? Good luck! I take it that you wouldn't mind if we jump into your ASDG section and point out to AdPro users who ask you questions that Imagemaster does X Y or Z and AdPro doesn't? I'm just going by your assumption that you can jump in here and go after our customers. Of course, I have no objection to your doing it in your own section; that's what it is for. I'm not even certain I have an objection to your posting here – assuming that you provide us the same curtesy. –Ben

Ben, As a VERY interested owner, has GVP graced you with any ROM/software bug fixes for the IV/24 board since October???? The hardware is great, but the software is abominal!! -RSL-

Actually, we're not using any software they supplied; we wrote our own to drive the board, sorry. So I don't even know much about the s/w at this point. I think that between Imagemaster and AdPro, you really won't need much more, though. I don't beleive that GVP has the resources to match either product, or even come close. –Ben

Ben, Sometimes you don't need all the bells and whistles of ImageMaster and AdPro. It would be "nice" to have a simple display program for 24 bit images. More important, they promised a powerful 24 bit painting program. Quackenbush's MacroPaint is a pathetic excuse for such a product (I think that the guy was taught programming from Lehman (author of MaxiPlan) <<G>>! -RSL-
