#Atmospheric effect
6 messages in this thread
Hi there!
I have a logo\spaceship flying towards palnet earth. I used the earth mesh and
texture map that comes with the World Tool Kit. It works fine. However, I
want to add an Atmosphere to good old Planet Earth. I tryed a larger spehre
surrounding Earth, with a semitransparent closd texture map. It looks a little
better, but still the larger sphere ends abruptly and it looks fake. I wonder
if there is a technique to give more of a halo effect.
Also on a different note: Are there any good tutorials on explosions.
Thanks a million

Hi Alex,
<< but still the larger sphere ends abruptly and it looks fake. I wonder

Have you noticed the change in effect when you use Tranparency Falloff *out*
vs. *in* for the material assigned to the atmosphere?
HI Jonas,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I diddled around with the in and out
transparency
settings and I did not acheive my desired results. Lost faith. Now, if
tweaking
these values is the way to go, I will contiue untill I acheive the desired
results. Is
this the way to go, or is there anything else I should do. Any suggestions on
the
settings??
How about explosions?
THanks for any answers in advance.

Hi Alex,
<< earth with atmosphere.. >>
I found the following file in the lib. Maybe it'll give you some additional
ideas. Feel free to start a dialog with Kouros. He's a forum regular. 🙂

Title: Clouds over Planets
Keys: CLOUDS PLANETS EARTH
This a 640X480 GIF file. Take it to the Mat. Editor, Pull it up in Texture 1
100% Pull it up in
Opacity 100% Make it 2 sided, increase the Self Illum. to 100%
Then apply it to a second sphere larger than your planet with 1×1 tiling. This
should give you
nice clouds over your Planet, especially Earth.
I am still working on it and will post the new one soon. It is a free one so
your input is
appreciated.
