Alan, About once a year (since late '85) we've done a market survey on whether to implement a 3270 system for the Amiga. Each year we come to the conclusion that we _might_ be able to sell 100 of them. The market is just not there. If you have data to the contrary, we'd be VERY glad to see it.

Vic – If you're talking about a decent 3270/3278 software package for the Amiga at a reasonable price, I could probably sell 10-15 of them immediately to the Amiga SIG members at the Naval Postgraduate School. (We use an IBM compatible mainframe (Amdahl), though a lot of Unix workstations also get used. The Ami3270 program is somewhat lacking, and while I think I can use VLT for some of what I need, I haven't done so yet. An hardware emulation for use in a network connection is another story. What I do see a need for is the terminal emulation package for dial-in. Jeff Schweiger

Anyone know of a way to use an Amiga as a terminal session on an IBM Sys/36? (other than a 5250 emulation board on the Bridgboard side with a bridgeboard). – Whapp!ng from the North Coast Michael

IBM support Async terminals on the AS/400.. Do they support Async terms on the S/36?? If so, you may be able to find (or write) a terminal emulator that has a corisponding terminal on the S/36.. I would be glad to be of any further assistance (I call into my as/400 from home with my Amiga 3000) — Alan Russell

Michael, Sorry. I'm not up to speed on the Sys/36. Are you restricted to direct connection or do you have dial-in (modem) capability? Jeff Schweiger

Jeff: I have single comm capability on the sys/36, whic I need to leave open for off site access. I'd much rather go direct connection… I haven't heard of anything that will do this with the Amiga. – Whapp!ng from the North Coast Michael

You could, of course, use a bridge board and then any one of the twinax adapters. Or you could add more Async Comm Ports to your S/36 (they should be cheap since the S/36 is pretty old), or you can purchase a Protocol Convertor (from Black box, among others) to convert SDLC to Async. alan

Alan: Yeah, I've thought about the Bridgeboard route… which would probably provide the best emulation (I use an Emerald 5250 board in a 386 right now). The additional comm port for the Sys/36 is still to expensive, IMHO. Thanks for your input. – Whapp!ng from the North Coast Michael

Dont get me wrong, I am not bitching, I am just stating a pretty plain fact. The amiga is missing most of the connectivity and open system stuff that PC's have. I don't know if anyone would even use the stuff, but the fact that their is little or no support for it shows the basic difference in the Amiga and the PeeCissy..
