I am experiencing problems with R4. After working in the 3D Editor for a while.. (rendering, selecting, editing etc.) The lines got screwed up in most of the objects. For example – a sphere grew spikes. I had similar problems with other CADs and was told that it is due to memory allocation errors. I tried rebooting the machine to clear the memory buffers, but that doesn't seem to help. I lost a few edits because of the problem. I wonder if anyone might have experienced similar problems, any solutions? -Bill

Hi Bill, << ..spikes.. >> It sounds like the copy of 3DS.EXE that you've installed has become corrupted somehow. First, check your system for viruses, and then re-install the software from the original master disks. If the problem persists after that, contact your dealer for a new set of master disks. jonas[adesk]

Hello Jonas, I took out smartdrv and everything was okay. I suppose the delay writes can screw up the memory allocation. Do you know if this is true with others? Do you know of anyone else running 3ds under other disk caching devices? Problems? -Bill

Bill, >> I took out smartdrv and everything was okay. I found exactly the same thing happen on one of our machines, and it disappeared after removing smartdrv. And, yes, we have nothing but legal versions with the dongle. (We're a dealer.) John
