John, We, meaning myself and Quest Video Productions, are working on a business showcase for Fort Collins. "Larimer County Business Showcase" will be on eight times a month, and will feature three businesses presented in eight minute segments. I will be the host of the show, and my business will produce the individual segments. Quest Video is handling all of the dealing with the cable company concerning our leased access agreement. Our first show should hit the air in February. I would sure like to hear from anyone else who is doing some work in leased access, as it is a very exciting field full of possibilities. I'll let you know how it all goes! Matt Larsen InvMedia@delphi.com

Matt, Are the eight shows a month going to all be different? That would be two productions a week if so… whew. How do you all plan to make money with the show, by selling advertising or some other form? Please do let us know how it goes! -John

Hi Matt, It is funny that you bring this up since I have been trying to get somthing like this off the ground in my area. The biggest problem I am having is convincing local business that there will be viewers out there. Since there are no statistics kept for viewership of leased acsess it is realy tough. If you don't mind me asking, what are you folks paying for a half hour spot. In my area it is $450.oo per half hour in prime time and can run as low as $250.00 in off hours. Regards, Michael W. Michael and John, John – we are putting on the same show for all eight repetitions. Ideally, we would produce one show, get the featured businesses to sign for 3 to 6 month contracts and show basically the same show for the 3 to six months. Once the first show is full, we will buy additional time and produce another one. Michael – I am not involved in the negotiations with the cable company, but I believe we are paying $50 an hour to get at 80,000 potential viewers. This is in prime (6-8pm) viewing time on 14 after the local cable newscast and local oriented programming. These rates may change in the near future as more people buy time and we face the possibility of getting moved to another channel (61). Time will tell. Matt Larsen

Hi Matt, >> I am not involved in the negotiations with the cable company, but I believe we are paying $50 an hour to get at 80,000 potential viewers. << WOW!!!! you guys are getting off cheap. I am looking at $450.00 per half hour in prime time. It would shure make it alot easier to sell this if I could get air time at that rate :-)). Regards, Michael W. Michael: If you feel you're overpaying for leased cable access time, or the cable operator in your area isn't being very cooperative, check out the FCC report that outlines all the specifics regarding cable access. I can send you a copy if you'd like one. Barbara A. Besteni, Publisher VIDEO FILE, Professional Journal of the Video Entrepreneur

Hi Barbara, I hope you don't mind my jumping in on this thread but your comment about leased access really grabbed my attention. I have contacted my local cable company regarding leased access and all I was able to get was a snow job! I would love to have some information about these issues. I also sent you a message in response to another of your postings for DTV and video marketing info. You asked me to be more specific. I guess it would help to know what type of services and info you can offer or are willing to offer. Thanks Matt

Matt: For the full scoop on leased cable access, you may want to contact my good friend Roseanne Conrad at the Association of Professional Videographers. She's online at Videorose@AOL.com. She's been involved with leased cable access for a while and was one of the speakers at the Denver Video Marketing Summit my company sponsored back in October. Jeff, I am a bit confused. Did you mean this for someone else? Maybe you were referring to Alba-Marie Bestini 73773.2744@compuserve.com . Barb, as she refers to herself, is sending me a copy… so I think you need to send her your address… that is her magazine. Let me know if you ment something different. les booth

Les: Thanks for sending Jeff my way. I found his post here and will be sending him a sample of VIDEO FILE. By the way, Alba-Marie Besteni is my cousin and partner. Although the CIS account is in her name, I'm the one who uses it. Contrary to popular belief, we are not the same person. (I've actually got people who have seen us both in the same room at the same time who will vouch for this 🙂 Barbara A. Besteni a/k/a Barb
