After placing a call to DPS to find out their plans for support of SCSI
HD's, the service rep. I spoke with instilled no confidence in me that this
will happen anytime soon. Looks like if I want to go Micropolis I had better
snatch up a 2217A, but SOON!
Your message about the really low price down there in LA got me
drooling. I have gone from cover to cover in the March issue of Computer
Shopper, called a sampling of the lowest priced vendors, and still fell around
$150.00 higher than the price you witnessed.
You stated that they hold the shows every 2-3 weeks or so. What are the
chances that you are attending the next one? I was hoping that if you attend
and happen to see more 2217A's comparably priced you could get a company name
and phone number so that I will not remain geographically challenged.
There may be similar deals to be had at our local computer shows up here
in Sebastopol (North of SF about an hour…) but the last several we went to
were disappointing and we haven't returned since. I will try again to find out
about the local shows and see what I find.
Lastly, you mentioned ELCO. Is this a computer parts supplier? Do they
sell the 2217A cheap, too?
We're REALLY close to getting our new system and any help you can provide will
be greatly appreciated.

If I am not mistaken, they were taking about 2210A HD's (1 GIG).
I posted some info on 2217A's (1.5 gig) a couple weeks ago. In Sunnyvale, CA a
company called NCA was selling them for $609.95. This price was supposed to
end on March 5th. I don't know if it did or not, however the way it is getting
hard to get these drives, you might think about calling them, and paying a
little more just to get one.
The number in Sunnyvale is 408 739-9010. If they don't have any at that store,
have them check their others if you are interested.

I just picked up a 1.75G IDE Micropolis 2217A from NCA in Palo Alto last
Thursday; the price had dropped from $850 to $609 in only 2-3 weeks. They still
have several in stock; I got it because I needed a good, big IDE HD to
supplement my SCSI HD, also because I remember reading that it was
PAR-compatible. (I've been thinking of getting one soon.)

Elco is where I bought my drives. I purchased them at a show 6 weeks ago and
didn't think to mention it until lately. The price has fallen $50 since I
bought them. There number is 818- 284-3281 they are located in Alhambra. Good
Luck a lot of the show venders have different prices dealing with the store
front. Definetely worth a try, though!
