Can anyone tell me with certainty whether or not I can use a standard Amiga parallel printer cable on my Amiga 1000 (with a gender changer, of course. I know the port is the opposite gender on the A1000). I've gotten conflicting opinions about this, with someone warning me I might "fry" something. What's the truth about this? Frederic, I'm sorry, but you canNOT use a standard printer cable on an A1000. On the later Amigas, beginning with the 2000, you can, but the A1000 has different pinouts. —Betty

Betty, Thanks for the reply to my query about parallel cables and the A1000. I'm sorry to learn that the A1000 is so non-standard. I assumed gender was the only difference. I guess I'll have to try to find an A1000- specific cable (if they're still available!) Fred 71042,341 fdgiac@mail.msen.com giacobaf@k2.kirtland.cc.mi.us

Frederic, I have on an A1000 parallel cable you can have for the price of shipping if you can't find one anywhere. Email me you address and I'll find out what that will come to. Paul Sattethwait

Frederic, NO…plain and simple…even with a gender cable…you shouldn't use a standard parallel cable. The pinouts are wrong. Don

Don, Thanks for the definitive information. I'm glad you replied before I did some damage! I'll try to hunt for an A1000 cable. Fred 71042,341 fdgiac@mail.msen.com

Frederic, Don't use a standard cable. There is a +5 volt line on pin 23 of the A1000 which needs to be found on pin 14 of a standard cable. That is the major difference but there are others. If you need the complete pin outs and the differences let me know. But be care with a standard cable. Dege Pop quiz: Two biggest crooks in modern history? (o\_/o) Answer: Gould & Ali {-I-}

Dege, Thank you for letting me know about the A1000's parallel port. I'll try to locate an A1000-specific parallel cable, if I can find one! Fred 71042,341 fdgiac@mail.msen.com
