Although the old USSR does not look like much of a threat anymore, all of the
military strategists now say we are so short manned and unorganized with the
military downsizing… we couldn't do anything larger than a small Somalia type
police action. We have learned recently that we can't be an isolationist
country and just because the old Soviet Union is smaller, does not mean that it
can't again be a threat nor does it mean that any other nation can rise up
against us. It is a known fact that if another nation of Iraq's stature a few
years ago chose to overrun a country like Kuwait, we couldn't do much about it.
We have weakened ourselves that much…

There is no USSR! And have you looked at how poor all those fragments are?
Have you been watching the news about the so-called Chechnya campaign? Those
people are supposed to be a credible threat against US?
Wake up and smell the coffee! Any problems in our military are caused by poor
organization and infighting as well as military higher-ups trying to make the
situation look as bad as possible in order to get more money.
As I said before, we spend more on our military than the NEXT TEN COUNTRIES
COMBINED spend on theirs! How strong do we need to be?

Look at how poor Germany was between the World Wars…and you'll find
that being poor is actually a good excuse to build a large military…and then
to use it.
Poor is a function of faith and external trade. Faith in the
government is what keeps a money's value up, external trade is what benchmarks
a nation's money against other nation's money.

Not really…what backups up US currency? Nothing but the faith and
credit of the people in the government.
You only need an agency to print up some script and declare that it has
value…and if the people are willing to accept that…then the script has
value. Nothing real has to back it up.

Ya know, I do smell something, but it sure ain't coffee. 😉

In the past year, we have had to be strong enough for police
actions/peacekeeping in Haiti, Rwanda, Somalia and Macedonia, a rapid
mobilization against Hussein's border buildup, a large naval, air, armored
and infantry deterrent group in Korea, troops for President Clinton's
commitment to send peacekeepers to Bosnia if peace ever breaks out (yeah,
I know, but we committed to having them available), some continuing
involvement in the drug war, and oh yes, the anti-terrorist forces you
want.
The military will also be expected to react immediately to any earthquakes
in California, flooding in the heartland, hurricanes in Florida, etc.
And there's all those commitments to our pesky allies, as well as
excercises with our new Partners for Peace in eastern Europe.
We could close some bases and cancel unnecessary weapons programs, but
only if it doesn't cost jobs in any congressional district anywhere.
