250 messages a day? Whew — well, I wouldn't read near half of the sections
anyway. But it's a drag that there's no demo (seems to be called aCcis rather
than aAcis). I'm not much for buying stuff sight unseen either. If it costs the
same as AP maybe I can do without it, although I'm glad I don't have to do
without AP. <g>
Anyway, it's good to hear that the Xjack is sturdy. I didn't know people
could be so careless with one, though! So is there a good term program for the
95LX that will let me get email, whether or not I upload it to the Amiga
afterwards? And is anybody selling 2400 bps (or even slower) PCMCIA modems, or
are they all 9600 or faster? I guess there're no more acoustic couplers out
there for payphones, eh?

I tend to skip a lot of the messages in there myself. And AutoPilot works for
mee, too (How much better could aCCIS be if it runs on a 640k XT?)
People with money could care less how they treat their equipment. They only do
it if it's under warranty, though.<g> Fortunately, we have never had to take
one back.
I haven't seen the 95LX, but my 100LX has a halfway decent Term program built
in the ROM. It supports all the major protocols (except B+) and is
programmable. I have used it to connect to Compuserve at 38.4kbs with my 14.4
PCMCIA modem. They make 2400 and 9600 baud PCMCIA modems, and they even make
28.8kbps PCMCIA modems. The difference in price between the 2400, 9600 and
14.4 modems are not significant. The 14.4 has a street price of less than $200
(I saw them on Fidonet for around $120). I haven't seen an acoustic coupler
for it, but there should be one available. There is a version that is celular
compatable.

Heh! Meanwhile, I got a note from acCIS' author saying they have a 30-day
money-back guarantee. So at least you aren't stuck if you decide you don't like
the way it works, if it's somehow not what you expected, or if it's not
compatible with something you need it for.
Now that'd be neat if there's a term program in the LX ROM, but I'll try not
to get my hopes up until I see mine. Should have it next week. The 200LX sounds
pretty impressive, too, with Pocket Quicken built in and all. 🙂
BTW, yeah, there IS an acoustic coupler available. I found it and other
helpful stuff in a textfile from a company online in HPhandhelds. All I need
now is an unlimited budget. ::chuckle::

I saw where you posted your question in the HPHAND forum. I believe the 95LX
does also have a term program built in.

Go ahead and get your hopes up, just not too high <grin>. There is a terminal
program in the ROM; it's fairly minimal, but it does work. There is also
support for electronic mail on all versions but the old 95LX.
I assume you know about HPHAND? They have a fairly lively section (several
hundred messages per day) devoted to the 95/100/200 and will be happy to answer
questions and chat with you about your new toy. But since you know about acCIS
I assume you know about the forum…

The 95LX, as you know, has the telecom app and that's it. The 100LX adds
CC:MAIL, so if you're on a LAN or other sort of network running CC:MAIL you can
link in and do your chores.
If memory serves, the 200LX tosses CC:MAIL and substitutes some other email
package, as well as LapLink.
My Lady loves the 95. I was going to trade it in on the 100, but she kept
looking at it longingly (and politely not saying anything). I just couldn't do
it to her. <Smile>
Ahem… mayhaps we should move this to HPHAND before our fellow Amigans kick us
out. 8)

That's good that you're so perceptive with your Lady. 🙂 Good point on
moving to HPHAND — but I doubt we'd get the boot. I see people ramble on about
the craziest stuff here. <g>

The 100LX and 200LX have cc:Mail in ROM. Both my wife and I have 100LX's :^)

CIS supports cc:Mail, so that's probably pretty handy. And even more handy
that you & the wife can share files, etc.!

Really dumb question. What is cc:Mail? Different than c:mail? I looked all over
for it when I saw it memtioned in an AP update.

Sorry — I don't really know what cc:Mail is, except that I think it's a
Microsoft email tool for PCs.

cc:Mail is a Lotus product. It is pretty much the standard mail for corporate
PCs, but it's also pretty lame and painful, at least in an environment where it
needs to interoperate with standards (like Internet mail).

I just read in the HPHAND forum that CIS does support Lotus' cc:Mail. However,
someone stated that the HP version does not support the scripts needed to use
the CIS cc:Mail server. I do not know if this is true; I do not use the
cc:Mail program. Most of my telecom needs are met with AutoPilot :^) Only if
I am onsite with a customer do I use my LX to get info from Compuserve.
It is pretty handy that we both have one. She works strange hours (24hours on
48hours off; ambulance driver) and is a full time student. She has a paper due
tomarrow, so she typed it up on the 100LX where she works (must have taken
forever on that little keyboard), sent it to my A1200 via the PCMCIA fax modem,
and I printed it out for her on my LaserjetII, ready for her to pick up on her
way to school tomarrow morning. This was her first time ever doing anything
with a modem (heck, she's only had the 100LX for 2 days now. She's not
computer literate, but she does know how to use WordPerfect 6.0 DOS pretty
well, no small feat if you ask me :^)

Neat! Sounds like your wife is really sharp. Definitely no small feat to
work WordPerfect 6 *or* to use a modem the first time. <g>
Wow, that 24 hours "on" has gotta be miserable. Hope she's not the one
driving if she has to stay awake most of that time! ::chuckle:: I know a
couple nurses that work 12-hour shifts, but if things're slow they can rest.
It's still gotta be tough.
