Since the Democrats who believe that Social Security "should be a trust fund"
don't seen to have objected to any of Clinton's budgets (Which included SS
receipts as part of general revenue and counted it against the deficit, each
and every one) before this, I'm afraid I have to question their sincerity on
the sudden sanctity of the trust fund.
But enough. I'm with you, the deficits must stop. It's just that the NEH and
NEA would be SUCH a nice place to start. . . <G>

The fact that they voted for the budget doesn't necessarily mean they're not
pro trust fund. In politics, there're such things as compromise, and the deal.
Things don't get done without them.

Yes, I'm an evil philistine all right. Somehow, I feel disturbed that we take
money BY FORCE from families making 25K a year to give to "artists" doing
things like coating themselves with chocolate on stage. And that is a *mild*
example, suitable for a family forum. I can't believe you have ANY idea what
sort of things those grants go for. In fact, the endowments themselves are
careful not to ask too many questions, since then they can deny knowing what
sort of thing the "artist" does with the money. Cut them off. Zero. Zilch.
Nada.
(I am handicapped by having been an art history minor in college, which makes
it difficult to appreciate "performance art." Elitist, but there it is.)
