Tracy, If I am understanding how things work here, you can help me with some tech support. I am new user and have encountered the problem of data either disappearing from my notes or becoming scrambled. When I called Okna, I was told that this happened fairly often, there was nothing that could be done to retreive my data, and that they did not have any idea when a patch to fix this problem would be coming out. She did not know if 4.1b would fix it. She then told me about this forum. She suggested that I back up my files religeously. This does help when I lose data I had just entered. I am new to Compuserve and so am having a little trouble tracking messages. I think that I read in one a week or so ago that 4.1b would not fix this problem. True? If so, when will a release be out to fix it? I use notes extensively to track projects and contacts. If this feature does not function, the program is useless to me. Is there any hope or do I need to keep looking?

Larry, 4.1b doesn't have a fix to the To Do list note scramble. Fixing this will require a major redesign of the Calendar, which will be in the next version (4.2). I don't have a release date, but it will be sometime this year. Sincerely, Martine Carlson Okna Technical Support

So, is there anything I can do to avoid losing data? Do you have any understanding of what causes this to happen?

Larry, The best thing to do is to keep frequent backups. That way, if your notes get out of whack you can always restore. There is a design flaw in the link between the calendar event database file and the to do note database file that causes things to scramble and disappear. So, does anyone have any understanding of what causes this to happen? Is there anything I can do to reduce the risk of this happening?

Larry, Two suggestions: 1) Back up your data very frequently, or 2) Make To Do events requiring notes floating events on your calendar instead. The calendar notes are much more stable. Dean Okna Tech Support

Dean, Thanks for the suggestions. However, they are not feasible in my situation. There is much to like with DTS, but this glitch means I must keep looking.

Larry, Your comment is understandable. Development is aware of the promlem and will have it fixed in a future release (release date is not set). Dean Okna Tech Support

Martine – You talk about a 4.2 release. Last year it had been mentioned that the next release after this interim release (4.1c) was going to be 5.0, has this changed or is what you are calling 4.2 what was originally considered 5.0? George.

George, There is still al little debate about what the next version(s) will be called. Dean Okna Tech

Dean – I thought industry numbering went along the lines of major changes get a new version number, minor changes get a new decimal digit. As this next one is supposedly going to be a major revamp (new to-dos, networking, etc.) then surely it must be a new version number. George.

George, Here we're more concerned about the features than the version number. Dean Okna Tech
