Business Publishing!

I was pleasantly surprised today when the January 1992 issue of Business
Publishing (formerly Personal Publishing) arrived. The lead article was
"Shopping for Something New? Check out the Amiga, Atari, Unix, NeXT".
For a magazine that focuses almost exclusively on the Mac and IBM
platforms, the part of the article that focuses on the Amiga (1 2/3 pages)
was well written and accurate for the most part. It was also very
complimentary to the machine, calling the Amiga, "a versatile performer".
Other quotes from the article:
"But, the capabilities that enable it to excel as a video graphics
workstation make the Amiga a powerful alternative for desktop publishing as
well. It offers the speed and processing power of much more expensive
computers in a system that's easy to use and versatile."
"The selection of design and publishing programs…isn't as broad as
what's offered for the Macintosh and PC. The applications that are
available, however, have features and capabilities every bit as capable as
products such as Aldus Corp.'s Pagemaker."
"People who have not used the Amiga…dismiss it as a toy or game
machine because they're aware of Commodore's reputation with products like
the C64… But, the Amiga is hardly a toy." (Typist's note: BE STILL MY
HEART! 🙂
I don't want to get into copyright trouble, so I suggest everyone
interested pick up a copy of Business Publishing. I plan on writing a
letter thanking them for the exposure in their magazine, and I ask that
anyone who feels strongly about it to do the same. While I'm at it, I'll
probably ask if it wouldn't be too much to spend a page a month on the
'other platforms' mentioned above.
Finally, the cover of the magazine featured a neat computer-generated
design. Could the Amiga have accomplished the same thing as jaggy-free on
film?

Yes – using a digital film recorder and an image processing system that
supports it, such as AdPro.

Tony,
Wow! Great news! I really liked Personal Publishing so I'll have to check
out Business Publishing. I wonder how many of the editorial staff and
authors made the switch. Some used to hang out on DTPForum but I haven't
been there in a while. Maybe it's time to go back.

There was some misinformation in that article that was pretty nasty. They
mention that there is nothing on the Amiga like Adobe Photoshop. ASDG and
BBS might disagree…
