#STUDENT RESPONSE ANI2-B

I'm a little confused about the suggestion in exercise 3 that the clip changes
and repeat changes might make it easier to do exercise 1. I did exercise one
of lesson B entirely with the animcel you provided and optics functions. The
changes functions are neat, but I don't get the application.

Before I get into their applicability in the exercise, do you feel
comfortable using the clip and repeat functions of TRACE?

I understand the clip function – it makes a clipping of pixels you
have changed since coming onto the frame. And the Clip and repeat
function carries forward to the next fram all the changes made on the
current frame. A good example of using it is to show "drawing", for
example, draw one petal of a flower, repeat changes puts that petal
on the next frame where you can draw a second petal, do it again to
carry both petals, etc – the petals appear one by one through the
frames.
I'm puzzled about how this applies to exercise one – draw a background
with three lily pads; use animcel and optics to hop the frog from one
pad to another – what are the changes I'd want to carry forward?
BTW in your course notes after the reference to ANI2-B2.gif you note
that you can't see the complete character, but only his outline. If
you only sketch in black and white (while using blue frame) then you
can see "more" details. You can add the colors later in a separate
pass.

I see the confusion. This is my fault, Charles. What I was intending was
that backgrounds could be drawn in motion, or the frog could be drawn in
motion using Clip Changes in the initial outlining stages. I used a ";"
instead of a "." I was hoping students would try both methods as some users
prefer the Clip method to Insert/-> method. <BLUSH>

Mark, cool.
I appreciate the effort you do go to prepare the materials and clarify things.

Writing up these telecourses is like staring at a puzzle some nights. I
re-read the notes, I re-check the images, and I still wind up with typos,
spelling errors, and occasional weirdness. Thank you for your patience. 🙂

Yes. Even in manual cartooning, color fill is saved for last. Everything
drawn is done in outline except for storyboards (shaded, shadowed or
sometimes colored).
